We held the graduation of the final cohort of youth from the Katwe Skills Centre. This life-changing 6-month program provided hands-on training in marketable trades, such as domestic wiring and tailoring & fashion, alongside vital entrepreneurship and peace education.

We are proud to have skilled a total of 204 vulnerable youth (103 males, 101 females) who earned professional Certification.

These graduates, drawn from Kampala's violence hotspots such as Kisenyi and Katanga, now possess the confidence, discipline, and non-violent conflict-resolution skills to become active, self-reliant citizens.

This is under our Strengthening Youth Voice and Civic Action for Peacebuilding in Uganda project in partnership with FCA Finn Church Aid Finn Church Aid Uganda and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland.

🕊️As part of our Peace Beyond Borders project, we recently brought together over 300 local community members in Kampala and Kasese for public sensitization meetings on preventing and countering violent extremism.

We sat down with landlords, property brokers, and boda-boda riders who are often on the front lines without even realizing it. We talked about how their everyday work can sometimes be exploited by extremists (renting rooms, transporting strangers, or passing messages).

More importantly, we shared simple, actionable steps they can take to spot red flags, stay safe, and close those gaps.

By the end, everyone left with sharper eyes, better questions to ask, and a real sense of how their vigilance can protect their neighborhoods.

Huge thanks to our partners Pole Institute and Kofi Annan Foundation, and to the European Commission for funding this project.

Leaders of the Victims of Terrorism Association Uganda (VoTAU) attended a capacity-building training designed to sharpen their leadership skills and equip them with the skills needed to organize, manage, and sustain a strong, accountable association.

They explored how victim-led leadership can drive advocacy, resilience, and a unified voice for survivors across Uganda. They were also trained in peacebuilding efforts in order for them to play an active role. This association is the first of its kind in Uganda and it aims at championing the rights & needs of victims and survivors of Terrorism.

🕊️Annual Peace Meals 2025
Today, 17th November, we came together to celebrate tolerance, unity, and cultural diversity through dialogue, food, and shared experiences.

Our panel discussion on "Beyond Boundaries: The Role of Youth in Advancing Tolerance and Intercultural Understanding" shared powerful reflections on justice, inclusion, education, and how young people can lead dialogues that build peace and harmony.

One of the most heartwarming moments was "The Taste of Tolerance," an intercultural food exhibition by the Baganda, Acholi, Bagisu, Somali, West Nile, and Banyankore communities.
Each dish told a story, each flavor carried meaning, and each culture reminded us of the beauty of diversity.

Great thanks to FCA Finn Church Aid and Ulkoministeriö - utrikesministeriet for making this possible.

We held a capacity-building workshop to provide state and non-state actors from Kampala and Wakiso with conflict-sensitive, gender- and trauma-informed skills for preventing and countering violent extremism.

The training resulted in the formation of:
▪️Sub-county P/CVE working groups.
▪️The dev’t of locally tailored minimum requirements & actions for community resilience, & increased collaboration among gov’t, civil society, cultural, and religious leaders.

Overall, this creates the groundwork for long-term, community-led efforts to combat radicalisation and promote peace.

This falls under the Peace Beyond Borders project in conjunction with Pole Institute and Kofi Annan Foundation, funded by the European Commission.

On this International Day of Peace, we will continue to develop grassroots peacebuilding through our peace clubs in 8 schools in Kampala and Yumbe.

📕These clubs teach students how to resolve conflicts in practical ways, encourage conversation, and develop a nonviolent culture.

Last term, some of our peace club members successfully mediated peer disagreements, organised community peace activities, and reported feeling more confident in dealing with issues constructively.

Through these activities, we are developing the next generation of young leaders who are devoted to peaceful coexistence.

In Kasese, local government, security agencies, civil society, religious & cultural leaders, and private sector actors came together to strengthen community capacity in preventing and countering violent extremism.

Participants built skills in conflict-sensitive, gender- and trauma-informed approaches to peacebuilding. The initiative fosters resilience, collaboration, and amplifies the voices of women, youth, and marginalized groups in line with Uganda’s national P/CVET strategy.

Our youth at the Katwe Skills Centre sat for their Uganda Vocational and Technical Assessment Board exams after 6 months of intensive hands-on training. Hailing from Kampala's violence hotspots, they were equipped with marketable trades. This training was designed to reduce their vulnerability to violence while opening pathways to meaningful employment.

Beyond technical skills, the program supported the youth with
entrepreneurship training, mentorship, career counselling, business coaching. We remain committed to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable youth, free them from the pull of violence, and empower them to build brighter tutures.

During the commemoration of this year’s International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism, we successfully held the National Round table, first of its kind, that brought together various key stakeholders and Victims of Terrorism to discuss and highlight some of the critical gaps and unmet needs of victims and possible long term interventions to support these victims. We are also pleased to announce the official launch of the Victims of Terrorism Association, Uganda that will champion the rights & needs of victims and survivors of Terrorism. Prospect Initiative remains committed to supporting all victims of terrorism and supporting all efforts to bring an end to violent extremism in Uganda and beyond. Survivors of terrorism in Uganda live with lasting injuries, and trauma. Families wait years for answers, while most victims receive no medical care, compensation, or protection under law. Jobs are lost. Children grow up without parents. Rights to truth, dignity, and rehabilitation are denied.
➡ Join us tomorrow as we launch the Victims of Terrorism Association.
