🐝 Happy ! Today we're celebrating someone very special. Meet Adrole, one of West Nile's most experienced beekeepers and a true community champion. πŸŽ₯

What started with 3 traditional hives has grown into a thriving farm and six children educated through honey. 🍯

We're proud to have walked alongside Adrole through our programme that trained and equipped 50 farmers, delivered together with our partners at The Victim Relief Alliance (TVRA) and made possible by the generous support of the DuMont Group Foundation.

Here's to the farmers, the bees, and the communities building something sweet. 🌼

Resources might be limited and challenges can feel overwhelming. But when your work is rooted in purpose, even difficult days become part of something meaningful.

Let your mission continue to inspire you this week.

Meet Nobert Baraka.

Nobert is from the Democratic Republic of Congo and lives in Nakivale Refugee Settlement. He is also one of the people who makes our work possible, going door to door, asking the right questions, and collecting the data that our programmes are built on.

When COVID-19 interrupted his education, he didn't stop. He worked a full year, and paid his own way back into school. Today he studies Social Work and every time we pay him for his fieldwork, his first act is to send the money straight to his university.

"I can't thank MI enough because they also contribute to my studies."

But for Nobert, it's bigger than the income.

"Data is very crucial in planning. Without data, you can't plan."

He collects data from a community that is also his own. He knows what it means to need support, and what it means when the right information reaches the right people at the right time.

While Nobert helps improve lives across Nakivale, he is quietly building his own. πŸ’›

54% reduction in preventable deaths. That's the power of emergency care that actually reaches people. πŸ₯

On Friday 8th May, we handed over life-saving equipment to 25 health facilities across Uganda's Ankole region including oxygen systems, patient monitors, crash carts, nebulizers, and more. All made possible by over UGX 1 billion in funding from Germany's Bundesministerium fΓΌr wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ)

This is Phase 3 of a partnership with Uganda's Ministry of Health that began in 2018. From policy, to training, to equipping facilities on the ground...we're in this for the long haul.

Because malaria, pneumonia, obstetric emergencies, road traffic injuries are largely preventable when care arrives in time. ⏱️

Grateful to BMZ, the Ministry of Health- Uganda, and the district teams across 13 districts who are committed to keeping this equipment in service and saving lives.

Every individual earning an income, every trained health worker, every family with access to clean water, and every child receiving the care they need is a reminder that meaningful change happens when people come together with compassion and purpose.

We are deeply honoured to be part of this journey alongside the communities we serve, our dedicated staff, partners and supporters. Thank you for walking this path with us as we work together to build healthier, safer and more resilient communities.

Thank you for the quiet strength you carry every day, the countless sacrifices no one sees, and the love that shapes families and communities in powerful ways.

Today we celebrate mothers, grandmothers, guardians, and every woman who steps into the role of caring for others with compassion and resilience.

Wishing you a day filled with love, appreciation, and rest. πŸ’›

At Kubala Market in Terego, West Nile Uganda, a new slaughter shed is doing more than improving infrastructure. It’s protecting lives. πŸ„

Veterinary assistant Francis Ejoyi has seen the difference firsthand. Cleaner conditions, safer meat handling, and a real reduction in the kind of risks that travel from animals to people without anyone noticing.

This is part of our One Health Programme: a joined-up approach to human, animal, and environmental health, implemented with Kulika Uganda and funded by Bundesministerium fΓΌr wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) . When we treat health as one connected system, the results reach everyone.

On this World Hand Hygiene Day, we are reminded why making clean water and hygiene a reality matters. Safer care really does start with clean hands. In hospitals, in schools, in homes, and in settlements.

To every health worker, community volunteer, and WASH officer making this happen on the ground: thank you. πŸ™

Happy Labour Day!

Today is simply about people who show up every day, in some of the world's most challenging places, and give this work their whole hearts.

You are the reason lives change. Thank you.

And just like that, our team wraps up 3 incredible days at the World Health Summit Regional Meeting 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya! πŸ‡°πŸ‡ͺ✨

2,000+ leaders, innovators, and changemakers from 50+ countries. One big question: how do we reimagine Africa's health systems for the future? From pandemic preparedness to digital health, climate resilience to mental health and youth leadership. The conversations have been bold, honest, and full of hope.

For us at Malteser International, being in this room has been a real privilege. We shared the work we're doing on the ground in our Emergency Care Systems programme in Uganda, Kenya & Rwanda, and our One Health Programme across Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda & DR Congo. None of it possible without the incredible support of Bundesministerium fΓΌr wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) ! πŸ™

Big thank you to Aga Khan University for hosting, and to World Health Organization (WHO) , Africa CDC Eastern Africa RCC & the Ministry of Health Kenya for bringing so many brilliant minds together.

We're leaving Nairobi re-energised and more committed than ever to building health systems that leave no one behind. πŸ’™
