Emesco Development Foundation (EDF) is a not-for-profit pro-poor community development organization with a mandate to improve the livelihood situation of the poor, the marginalized and the disadvantaged people in Kibaale District. Founded in April 1998 by indigenous members of the Kibaale community to respond to the socio-economic injustices that had been in existence since the colon
ial days, EDF was officially registered as a development organization in January 2000. Emesco Development Foundation uses an integrated participatory development model that is holistic in nature and implements integrated community development interventions mainly in Health, Water and Sanitation, Agriculture, Environment and Education sectors. The vision of EDF is that all the people in Kibaale District have skills, knowledge, resources and technologies to free themselves from poverty and sustainably improve their socio-economic status. Our Mission
Emesco Development Foundation exists to efficiently and effectively provide, support, promote and
implement integrated community development interventions that enhance the knowledge, skills and rights of the poor communities of Kibaale District to sustainably utilize the available resources, services and technologies to better their socio-economic status. EDF carries out this mission through:
Working with local communities to identify their needs and design appropriate interventions for meeting them. Mobilizing for funding and other resources from the donor community and other appropriate sources for supporting and implementing community development projects and programmes that have potential for improving the Poor's livelihood situation. Empowering the poor to manage and control their own projects, and demand for better service delivery from other stakeholders and/or local leaders. This has been achieved through the involvement of
community members in all programme processes. Facilitating integral development and acting as a voice for the cause of the poor. Collaboration and networking with Local and Central Government, other NGO’s, donors and other stakeholders on issues pertaining to realization of rural development and transformation.
