Voice of Women Uganda (VOWU) is a Community based Non-Governmental Organisation (Reg. No. 9872) founded in 2011 with the aim of promoting women and girls’ rights and their participation in community development. VOWU was founded after observing the situation women and girls in Uganda live in and the suffering they go through due to cultural backgrounds, which deny them access to education, employment, access to services and justice. The rampant abuse of women’s rights, sexual and gender based violence, the high maternal mortality and limited access to sexual reproductive health information, services and rights, the poor performance and poor retention of girls in schools are all vulnerabilities that women experience. This leads to domestic violence, early marriages and teenage pregnancy, low self esteem, lack confidence and ability to take decisions on matters that affect them.

We persue to get a society where women and girls live dignified lives. Our mission as organization is to educate, equip and empower women and girls to understand and exercise their rights and abilities so as to improve their socio-economic status through capacity building training, economic empowerment, awareness and education, mentoring, guidance and counseling, lobbying and advocacy and community outreaches to ensure that women realize their rights.
