The Chairperson of the National Scouts Youth Forum, in partnership with Access Uganda, led a community outreach initiative in Nakaseke District aimed at combating malaria through both prevention and education. This activity focused on the distribution of mosquito nets to vulnerable households and raising awareness about malaria prevention and control.

The campaign targeted families, particularly those with young children and pregnant women, who are most at risk of malaria. Hundreds of insecticide-treated mosquito nets were distributed to community members to promote safe sleeping practices and reduce mosquito bites during the night.

In addition to the donation, the team conducted malaria awareness sessions, educating residents on:
• The causes and transmission of malaria
• The importance of consistent mosquito net usage
• Environmental hygiene practices to eliminate mosquito breeding sites
• Early symptoms of malaria and the need for prompt treatment

The Chairperson emphasized the role of young people, especially Scouts, in community service and public health advocacy. Scouts actively participated in mobilizing the community, demonstrating proper use of mosquito nets, and spreading key health messages.

This initiative reflects the commitment of the National Scouts Youth Forum and Access Uganda to improving community health, promoting youth involvement in service, and supporting national efforts to reduce malaria prevalence in Uganda.

Young people from the Uganda Scouts Association actively participated in the National Youth Peace Walk, a nationwide initiative aimed at promoting peace, unity, civic responsibility, and youth engagement in national development.

The walk commenced at the historic Independence Monument, a symbolic site representing Uganda’s sovereignty, and proceeded through the city centre of Kampala, culminating at the Kololo Independence Grounds, a key venue for national celebrations and public gatherings.

The event was graced by the Hon. Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Mr. Barugahare Balam, who represented His Excellency Yoweri Museveni. In his remarks, the Minister emphasized the importance of youth participation in peacebuilding and national cohesion, highlighting government commitment to empowering young people as drivers of stability and development.

Scouts and other youth groups carried placards, chanted peace messages, and demonstrated discipline and unity throughout the walk, reflecting the core values of scouting such as leadership, service, and community engagement. The participation of the Uganda Scouts Association underscored its continued role in nurturing responsible citizens and supporting national initiatives that foster peace and patriotism.

Overall, the National Youth Peace Walk served as a powerful platform for amplifying youth voices and strengthening collaboration between government and youth organizations in building a peaceful and united Uganda.

The National Scout Youth Advisors held an engagement meeting with the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) and the Chief Commissioner, specifically with the Regional Director from the Africa Support Centre, to discuss key issues affecting young people within Scouting at both national and international levels.

The meeting focused on strengthening youth involvement in decision-making processes across all levels of the Scout Movement. The Youth Advisors highlighted the need for meaningful youth participation, emphasizing that young people should not only be beneficiaries of programs but active contributors in shaping policies, strategies, and activities.

Key issues discussed included the limited representation of young people in leadership and governance structures at national levels, and the need to align national practices with WOSM’s global youth engagement frameworks. Concerns were raised about adults dominating opportunities meant for youth, which limits the growth, confidence, and leadership development of young people in Scouting.

The engagement also explored ways to improve communication and coordination between National Scout Organizations and international platforms. Youth Advisors called for increased access to international opportunities such as trainings, exchanges, and global events, ensuring inclusivity and transparency in selection processes.

The Regional Director from the Africa Support Centre acknowledged these concerns and emphasized WOSM’s commitment to promoting youth-led Scouting. He encouraged National Scout Organizations to fully implement the Youth Engagement Policy and create safe, supportive environments where young people can lead and innovate.

Additionally, discussions covered capacity building for youth leaders, mentorship structures, and the need for continuous advocacy to prioritize youth at the center of Scouting. The importance of accountability, monitoring progress, and documenting youth impact was also stressed.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthen collaboration between youth leadership and regional support structures, ensuring that the voices of young people are heard, respected, and acted upon within the Scout Movement.
