The Chairperson of the National Scouts Youth Forum, in partnership with Access Uganda, led a community outreach initiative in Nakaseke District aimed at combating malaria through both prevention and education. This activity focused on the distribution of mosquito nets to vulnerable households and raising awareness about malaria prevention and control.
The campaign targeted families, particularly those with young children and pregnant women, who are most at risk of malaria. Hundreds of insecticide-treated mosquito nets were distributed to community members to promote safe sleeping practices and reduce mosquito bites during the night.
In addition to the donation, the team conducted malaria awareness sessions, educating residents on:
• The causes and transmission of malaria
• The importance of consistent mosquito net usage
• Environmental hygiene practices to eliminate mosquito breeding sites
• Early symptoms of malaria and the need for prompt treatment
The Chairperson emphasized the role of young people, especially Scouts, in community service and public health advocacy. Scouts actively participated in mobilizing the community, demonstrating proper use of mosquito nets, and spreading key health messages.
This initiative reflects the commitment of the National Scouts Youth Forum and Access Uganda to improving community health, promoting youth involvement in service, and supporting national efforts to reduce malaria prevalence in Uganda.
