In Uganda 80% of the population lives in rural areas. It is also these rural areas where levels of illness, disability and death are high. In addition most people in rural areas are poor and ignorant about health issues, and health workers and services are inadequate. In 1971-1985 where Uganda experienced political instability and insecurity health service delivery collapsed. Most of the delivery
infrastructure became function-less and most of the well skilled health workers left the country for their dear lives or for greener pastures. From 1996-2011, Uganda has made remarkable progress in health service delivery and recorded impressive achievements in health sector. A few examples of achievements are;-immunization coverage which has reached at 89%. The national average HIV-sero-prevalence as captured from Antenatal care reduced from 30% to about 6.2%. The infant motility rate reduced from 122 to 89 per 1000 birth. However malaria, HIV/AIDS, DIARRHOEA, respiratory diseases (coughs) malnutrition, worms tuberculosis are still major killer diseases in Uganda especially in childhood. Despite the impressive interventions and achievements, Uganda still has poor health indicators and heavy burden of diseases. What we’re doing:
