CMS Youth Empowerment Project: Restoring Hope and Livelihoods in Kampala's Ghetto Communities
CMS Youth Empowerment Project, an initiative of the Comboni Missionary Sisters in Uganda, with generous support from friends and well-wishers of the Comboni Sisters across the world, is transforming the lives of vulnerable young people through economic empowerment and entrepreneurship.
As part of this initiative, 10 youth from the ghetto communities of Kinawataka Zone and GizaGiza Zone in Nakawa Division, Kampala, have received business equipment to strengthen and expand their existing small enterprises. Rather than providing temporary relief, the project focuses on equipping young entrepreneurs with practical tools that enable them to generate sustainable incomes, create employment opportunities, and build resilient futures.
The beneficiaries received equipment tailored to their businesses, including:
1. Television sets for Lubox gaming centres.
2. Blender machines for fresh juice businesses.
3. Frying machines for roadside snack vendors.
4. Overlock sewing machines for tailoring enterprises.
5. Deep freezers to support retail and grocery shops.
6. Cooking equipment for restaurant business.
7. Overlock machine for a Unisex saloon (Chosen saloon)
These business assets are expected to improve productivity, increase customer satisfaction, and enhance the profitability of the youth owned enterprises. For many of the beneficiaries, the support marks a turning point from uncertainty and limited opportunities to renewed hope, self-reliance, and dignity.
