ECCOU Fundraising Story:
“A Ray of Hope in Kirika”
Because every child deserves a chance to learn.
Where Dreams Fade Before They Begin
In Kirika Sub-County, Kibuku District, the sound of children’s laughter often hides stories of struggle. Many bright young minds wake each morning with hope but without books, uniforms, or teachers, their dreams never reach the classroom door.
Instead of holding pencils, they hold hoes. Instead of learning their ABCs, they labor in fields. Poverty and loss have forced too many of Kirika’s children to trade childhood for survival.
But where others saw despair, Eastlander Childcare Organization Uganda (ECCO Uganda) saw potential.
Where Hope Took Root
ECCO Uganda began with a simple mission:
To ensure that every child, regardless of background, has access to quality education and holistic care.
Founded by Mr. Waira Samuel Joel, ECCO Uganda started small a few volunteers, one small classroom, and a vision that education could rewrite the future of Kirika’s children.
With dedication, prayer, and community support, ECCO Uganda began providing school materials, tuition, and meals for orphans and disadvantaged children. The transformation was immediate.
Real Stories of Change
Katooko Ester, 9 years old, once spent her days helping her mother in the fields. Today, she proudly reads her lessons aloud, her eyes full of confidence.
“I want to be a teacher,” she says softly, “so I can help other children learn like me.”
Samuku John, a 15-year-old orphan, had dropped out after losing both parents. ECCO Uganda sponsored his return to school and helped him join a vocational carpentry class.
Today, Moses builds desks for other students children who once sat on the bare floor just as he did.
These stories are not exceptions; they are the evidence of what compassion, education, and partnership can achieve.
