Hamiza Development Foundation

Hamiza Development Foundation Hamiza Development Foundation aims at inclusive, empowered and resilient households and communities.

The Hamiza Development Foundation is looking at addressing the challenges women and girls face. The need to work on these challenges is informed by the inequalities girls and women continue to face in Uganda. Empowering women and girls to address the challenges they face will require persistent, grounded, and consistent approaches that HAMIZA seeks to apply. We also realize that to address issues affecting women, we have to involve men in causing behavioral change.

Women have just 64% of the legal rights men hold worldwide. For refugee women, the gap is even wider.

This , we demand RIGHTS. JUSTICE. ACTION. For ALL women and girls, including those who have been forced to flee.

Autonomy is a precondition for equality.

On this International Womenโ€™s Day, a reminder that all women should have the power to decide.

This yearโ€™s global theme, โ€œ๐—š๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ ๐˜๐—ผ ๐—š๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐—ป,โ€ highlights an important truth: when we create opportunities for women, support their leadership, and promote gender equality, everyone benefits.

The UN theme, โ€œRights, Justice, Action,โ€ challenges us to move beyond promises and take meaningful steps that ensure women and girls can fully exercise their rights, access justice, and actively contribute to shaping the policies and decisions that affect their lives.

Within the advocacy and development space, this means amplifying womenโ€™s voices in leadership, strengthening their participation in policy processes, and building institutions that are inclusive, equitable, and responsive to diverse needs. Empowering women goes far beyond representation.

When we invest in women leaders by providing space, resources, and support, we strengthen institutions, improve policies, and build more resilient communities for everyone.

Happy International Womenโ€™s Day to all the women who continue to lead, advocate, and inspire transformative change.

The I AM Girl 6 Project (2025โ€“2028) has officially been launched at the National Level!

This milestone marks a significant step in advancing adolescent empowerment across Butaleja, Namutumba, and Butebo districts.

Phase 6 builds on successful district and sub-county inception meetings held earlier in 2025, ensuring strong alignment with local government priorities and coordinated community-level implementation.

After a brief postponement due to the election period, the national launch now reaffirms partner commitment and strengthens global visibility for the programme.

The project will reach 29,325 adolescents, addressing barriers to education through:
โœ”๏ธ Economic empowerment support for caregivers
โœ”๏ธ SRHR education and service uptake
โœ”๏ธ Agri-ecology initiatives
โœ”๏ธ Skilling and vocational development
โœ”๏ธ WASH interventions

The programme is primarily funded by Irish Aid and implemented by Fields of Life in partnership with Hamiza Development Foundation.

Together, we remain committed to advancing adolescent wellbeing, gender equality, and inclusive development outcomes throughout 2025โ€“2028.

What a great week of co-creation it was. LEAD Uganda project provides a good case study for "equitable partnership". As Hamiza Development Foundation, this is the partnership we strive for.

Last Friday, we concluded our week-long co-creation workshop with all our incredible partners โ€” and what a journey it has been!

Over the past few days, we came together to share insights, challenge assumptions, and collaboratively design solutions that truly respond to the needs of the refugees and host communities we serve. Through open dialogue, creative thinking, and collective commitment, we strengthened our shared vision of inclusion, resilience, and self-reliance.

These partnerships are more than collaboration โ€” they are a testament to the power of co-creation in driving impact that lasts. By working side by side, we ensure that our programs remain locally grounded, innovative, and sustainable โ€” empowering communities to shape their own futures.

A huge thank you to all our partners, facilitators, and participants for your energy, insights, and dedication throughout the week. Together, weโ€™re not just designing projects โ€” weโ€™re co-creating change. ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’ช

In the urban setting of Kyaka II settlement, limited access to land for farming posses a significant challenge to food security and nutrition among the refugees and the host community households .

To address this challenge, Hamiza Development Foundation (HDF) with support from Woord en Daad under the LEAD Uganda Project funded by MOFA are deteremined to improve the status quo of the livelihoods of the households in these urban refugee communities by encouraging them to grow high value foods and vegetables using readily available resources like used water bottles, polythene bags, buckets, timber among others.

This method of farming is affordable and addresses the land issue, and is not affected by the diverse effects of Climate Change, since farmers are encouraged to water their plants. For full engagement/participation of the entire household, children are encouraged to water and also grow their own vegetables in such manner.

The farmers in Bukere Zone received farm inputs and PPE to encourage them farm climate smart.

HDF thanks the Office of the Prime Minister in Kyaka II settlement for the great work done in the community and for all the support offered to the LEAD Partners in Kyaka II.
