Remarkable progress was made across multiple community empowerment initiatives led by the Kandaakiat Organization for Women Empowerment and Development (KOWED). Through consistent monitoring, evaluation, and capacity-building efforts, the organization continued to strengthen women’s participation in social and economic development.

Under the Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA) “Future is Female Project,” a community stakeholders’ inception meeting was successfully held, and staff capacity in data collection and analysis was enhanced. The Slovenia Aid Project marked tangible achievements, including the construction of an eco-toilet facility, completion of mushroom nutrition training for 47 participants, and ongoing distribution of menstrual products and digital skills development sessions.

The Global Whole Being Food Security Project advanced agricultural activities with 13 hectares of maize and beans fully planted, weeding in progress, and preparations initiated for a simsim (sesame) demonstration garden aimed at promoting climate-resilient crops. Meanwhile, the Women First Project continued empowering women and girls through tailoring, craft, and literacy programs, enrolling 35 new participants and mobilizing beneficiaries for leather production.

KOWED remains focused on improving data accuracy, expanding outreach, and reinforcing partnerships. The organization plans to intensify monitoring activities, strengthen reporting systems, enhance access to agricultural inputs, and adjust training schedules to meet women’s needs.

Through these collective efforts, KOWED continues to drive women’s empowerment, food security, and sustainable livelihoods, living out its vision that “When she knows, she grows.”

Kandaakiat for Women Empowerment and Development (KOWED), in collaboration with the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) and community partners, made significant progress under the Global Whole Being Fund Project in Uganda, Kiryandongo Refugee Camp. The team cultivated 14 acres of maize and groundnuts, engaged over 90 community members in a successful inception meeting, and strengthened stakeholder coordination.

With weeding ongoing and smooth project operations, KOWED continues to promote food security and livelihoods through upcoming activities in home gardening, seed distribution, beneficiary training, and Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) group formation.

The momentum generated in these two months ensures the project is on track to meet and exceed its objectives for the 2025 cycle.

KOWED Staff Join Church and Community Members to Commission a New Water Well

We are delighted to share that KOWED staff recently visited a vibrant community to officially open a newly constructed water well in Namasuba, st apollo church of uganda. This initiative is part of our continued efforts to support access to clean and safe water for all.

The event was graced by both church leaders and community members, who gathered in large numbers to celebrate this milestone. The well, strategically positioned near the church, will serve hundreds of residents who previously faced challenges accessing clean water.

The commissioning ceremony included a ribbon-cutting, prayers, and joyful celebration, symbolizing hope, unity, and progress. It was inspiring to see women, men, and youth come together in appreciation of this vital resource that will enhance hygiene, health, and daily life in the area.

We thank our partners, local leaders, and the community for their collaboration and support. Together, we continue to nourish lives and strengthen communities.

The training aimed to raise awareness among mothers about the importance of balanced nutrition. It covered several key topics, including:

🔹 The concept of healthy nutrition and its impact on family health, especially children.
🔹 Types of essential foods needed for different age groups (children – adolescents – adults – the elderly).
🔹 How to prepare balanced meals using locally available and affordable ingredients.
🔹 Preventive nutrition and its role in strengthening immunity and combating malnutrition.

The session was delivered in an interactive format, with active participation from mothers who shared their daily experiences. Practical demonstrations were given on preparing healthy meals for different age groups.

On June 26, 2025, Kandakiat was honored to welcome Madam. Ana Kalin representative of the Government of Slovenia

As part of our strong and ongoing partnership with the Slovenian governmen t, we were delighted to host Ms. Ann for a field visit to review some of the projects implemented in collaboration with our Slovenian partners.

The visit included: ✅ The water well project at St. Apollo Health Center
✅ The community water station
✅ Initiatives to improve access to clean water and promote health and dignity for women and girls

The visit was a valuable opportunity to engage in dialogue on the importance of civil society partnerships with international allies, and the need to continue investing in projects that make a real difference in the lives of refugees and host communities.
We deeply appreciate this partnership and believe that cross-border humanitarian cooperation is key to sustainable change.
