A poultry project is intended to be established as a subsidiary supplementing effort to generate income and improve the live hood of OVC in an environmentally sustainable. way This is in line with the ministry of gender ,labor, and social development(2004) which developed a national OVC policy aimed at improving the quality of life for poor and vulnerable children . The project intends to addres
s the immediate need to improve on food and nutrition security, education training and physical-social development of the OVC which will have a demonstrable impact on the quality of life of the targeted population. The intended poultry project is estimated at a Uganda cost $1668 mainly to cater for feeds cost, shelter, birds, immunization and veterinary care birds.. PROBLEM STATEMENT
Despite the many efforts to improve on the circumstances of vulnerable children of Hamurwa Community kabale District , policy makers, donors and program managers still lack comprehensive and up to date information about their numbers , geographical distributions , characteristics and needs . Non governmental organizations (NGOs) are reported to have a big impact of the few vulnerable children excluded as the results of the criteria used to define the beneficiaries. The project there for intends to reverse all these mistakes / inadequacies so as to provide a full spectrum of core services to all OVC in the locality which will in future facilitate country wide planning. SELECTION OF BENEFICIARIES
The selection criteria VOC if fazed on their numbers, geographical distribution, characteristics and needs. the qualifying criteria also focuses on various dimensions ranging from gender ,level of vulnerability age physical state of the child and others. The selected OVC will benefit from the project by earning livelihood through food and nutrition security and acquisition of basic education for sustainability development. PROJECT ACCOUNTING SYSTEM
The project intends to generate income from the out put in excess of what can be consumed by the OVC. The project is expected to generate ug (sh) 1000,000 per year which should be reflected on the project bank Account . The project accounting period shall be semi-annually and the basic financial statements shall include the quarterly bank statements, receipts books, payment vouchers and other books of accounts. STEPS SO FAR TAKEN AT THE PROJECT
a) project Identification: This was the first phase concerned with identifying project ideas , such project ideas met an initial tests of feasibility . b) Project Preparation: when the project idea passed the identification test, it was advances to the point at which afirm decision was taken to proceed with it. This required a progressive requirement of the design of the project in all its dimensions including economic, technical, social and institutional. c) Appraisal : The project is now at this stage, usually before approving resources, external agencies require a formal process of appraisal to assess the over all soundness of the project and its readiness for implementation. This is based of a strong operation maintenance mechanism which is and will be adopted basing on economic and commercial analysis of the returns for the project which will be ploughed back to ensure economic stability Discounting and conducting and compounding factors of the initial capital outlay will be considered such that given the shorter payback period then the project is capable of financially sustaining it self. There will be institutional and managerial appraisal, appraise of social aspects environmental appraisal as well as legal analysis. When properly checked, the project’s life span and sustainability is granted
TARGETED BENEFICIARIES
The project is targeting over 300 OVC less than 18 years by the end of next year 2013 from the current 210 children
The project intends to provide necessary care and support to these children.
