In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

A statement of condemnation, denunciation, and appeal from the Refugee Women for Peace and Development Organization.

The Refugee Women for Peace and Development Organization strongly condemns the bloody criminal acts perpetrated against the Sudanese refugee community in the Kriandingo camp on the morning of Friday, July 11.

While we deplore this type of irresponsible, aggressive practices and the critical health conditions of the injured, we also acknowledge the illogical reasons and ambiguity surrounding the causes of this unacceptable crime, as well as the challenges and tragic conditions that forced them to leave their homeland and endure living in settlements with deteriorating humanitarian conditions in search of safe haven and an honorable living.

Accordingly, the Refugee Women for Peace and Development Organization stands side by side with those affected by the events, with all Sudanese refugees and national organizations, and calls on relevant state officials, as well as international human rights and humanitarian organizations, to immediately investigate these events and bring those involved to justice. It also calls for the provision of necessary security and protection for all refugees in the settlements and for efforts to ensure their safety.

This is an urgent appeal from us and a call for help from all national and human rights organizations to take immediate and serious action in solidarity with Sudanese refugees in Uganda, particularly in the Kiryandongo camp, and to work to preserve their lives, safety, and dignity.

And God is behind the intention.

Refugee Women Organization for Peace and Development.

As part of efforts to support small businesses and empower refugees, the Women Refugee For Peace and Development Organisation organised a special bazaar in Entebbe, Uganda, with the participation of Sudanese refugee women showcasing and selling their handmade and food products.

The bazaar featured a wide variety of items including handicrafts, traditional Sudanese foods, accessories, clothing, and natural skincare products. This event provided participants with an opportunity to promote their products and earn income to support their families amid the difficult conditions of displacement.

The organisation stated that the aim of the bazaar was to encourage women to engage in self-employment, enhance their skills, and connect them with sustainable economic opportunities. Participants expressed their joy at having this opportunity, which helped restore their confidence, dignity, and sense of productivity.

This initiative is part of broader efforts to promote economic empowerment of refugee women, and to emphasise the importance of supporting small businesses as a path toward independence and improved living conditions.

Gender Workshop for Humanitarian Workers Held in Entebbe, Uganda
As part of ongoing efforts to enhance understanding of gender issues and promote gender equality in humanitarian work, the Women Refugees for Peace and Development Organization, in collaboration with Dr. Mona, organized a specialized training workshop in Entebbe, Uganda. The workshop brought together ten participants working in the humanitarian field across different sectors.

The primary objective of the workshop was to raise awareness on gender concepts, particularly within the context of displacement and refugee communities, where gender-based violence and social discrimination remain pressing challenges.

Key topics covered during the workshop included:

The distinction between s*x (biological) and gender (social).

Gender roles and the influence of cultural norms on inequality.

Understanding and responding to gender-based violence (GBV).

The importance of integrating gender perspectives in humanitarian programming.

The sessions were marked by active engagement and meaningful discussions. Participants expressed appreciation for the opportunity to explore these issues in depth and emphasized the importance of ongoing capacity building to ensure inclusive and gender-sensitive service delivery.

The workshop concluded with several key recommendations, most notably the need for continued training on gender-related topics, and the inclusion of such knowledge in various humanitarian sectors, including health, education, and protection.

This initiative represents a vital step toward empowering humanitarian actors in Uganda with the tools and understanding needed to advocate for gender equality and respond more effectively to the needs of vulnerable populations.

Legal Awareness Workshop for Sudanese Refugees in Entebbe
As part of ongoing efforts to enhance refugees’ awareness of their legal rights, the Refugee Law Project (RLP), in coordination with Women Refugees for Peace and Development, organized a legal awareness workshop targeting the Sudanese refugee community in Entebbe. The event brought together a group of Sudanese refugees to engage in legal education and dialogue.

The workshop aimed to inform refugees of their legal rights under the Ugandan Refugee Act of 2006 and relevant international conventions signed by Uganda. It also sought to raise awareness about the official procedures that guarantee legal protection and human dignity throughout their stay in the country.

The session began with a welcoming speech by the RLP team, emphasizing the importance of legal knowledge as a tool for defending rights, particularly given the daily challenges refugees face in accessing services, employment, education, and housing.

Key topics covered during the workshop included:

An overview of the Ugandan Refugee Act (2006) and refugee rights regarding residence, movement, and work.

The role of legal aid organizations such as RLP in providing free legal support.

The importance of reporting violations and discriminatory practices, and available mechanisms for doing so.

Participants were given the opportunity to raise questions related to their legal concerns, particularly on issues such as residency, documentation, marriage, and birth registration. Many attendees expressed appreciation for the initiative, describing it as the first of its kind to deliver legal information in a clear and accessible manner.

The workshop concluded with key recommendations, including the need to replicate such events in other refugee-hosting areas and to provide continuous legal support—especially for vulnerable groups such as women and children.

This workshop represents a significant step towards empowering the Sudanese refugee community in Entebbe to understand and claim their rights in a safe and lawful manner.

As part of its humanitarian efforts to support Sudanese refugees, the Women Refugee for Peace and Development Organization provided the Kuwaiti Basket as part of initiatives aimed at alleviating the suffering of refugees in Entebbe.
All refugees in Entebbe were registered, and the organization fully supervised the distribution of aid to ensure it reached all targeted individuals fairly and effectively. The focus was on the most vulnerable families, especially those with children or elderly members, ensuring that support reached those in the greatest need.
This initiative serves as a vital example of international solidarity in addressing humanitarian crises.
