WHO WE ARE:
Jinja Organization of Parents with Deaf Children (JOPDC) is a non profit making organization established in 2013 by 24 parents of deaf children after being trained in Sign Language coordinated by Soft Power Education with the financial support from Jinja Deaf UK. It was legally registered with Jinja District Local Government in 2014. OPDC was founded as a forum for parents and caregi
vers of deaf children in Jinja through which they would share individual challenges encountered in raising, caring and supporting these deaf children amidst the increasing stigma and discrimination the community have towards their children. Since its inception the organization is deeply evolved into a broad based child rights organization, addressing the needs of Deaf Children through identifying interventions that are strategic to the alleviation of their rights. WHO WE TARGET:
OPDC targets the most vulnerable, excluded and unsung heroes– the children with hearing impairments, visually blind children, physically handicapped children, children with Spina Bifida, aged 0-28 years and their care givers. OUR VISION:
To see a world where the language, culture and heritage of deaf and hard to hearing children will be acknowledged and respected in the pursuit of life, liberty and equality. MISSION:
To preserve, protect and promote the civil, human and linguistic rights of deaf and hard of hearing children in Jinja. AIM:
To promote, advocate and lobby for the human and rights of deaf children in Jinja, by working closely with the parents, community members, government , International, Regional , National and Intergovernmental agencies. GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT:
OPDC has four fully instituted structures to control the affairs and activities of the organization namely; Annual Members Meeting (AMM), Board of Trustees (BOT), Founders Executive Committee (FEC) and a Management Team (MT) at the Secretariat which is headed by the Executive Director.
