Family… today we want to share something close to our heart. ❤️

For years, Arise and Shine Uganda has stood for one thing:
keeping children safe, supported, and surrounded by love.

And now, something beautiful is happening.

We have been able to provide work for a new group of 40 women in our community, mothers, caregivers, and young women who are rebuilding their lives with courage. These are the women who hold families together. The women who make foster care possible. The women who protect children from ever entering institutions again.

Every woven piece, every bag, every item created at Arise and Shine is more than craft,
it is dignity, income, healing, and hope.

We want you to feel part of this.
Because truly… you are.

When you follow, like, comment, share, or support our work, you are strengthening an entire village.
You are helping a mother keep her child.
You are supporting a caregiver who opens her home to a child who needs love.
You are helping us rebuild life, family by family.

Every month, our women will gather and walk proudly with signs,
showing the world what it looks like when a community decides to rise together.
And we will bring you along through live videos, stories, and posts.

If you believe in child protection…
If you believe in family-based care…
If you believe in African women rising through their own hands and skills…

Please follow, engage, and stand with us.
Your support is not small, it changes an entire generation. ❤️

Together we rise.
Together we protect.
Together we rebuild families.

Arise and Shine Uganda.

It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of Emma.

Emma had been part of the AASU family before moving to a wonderful home in Kampala about 10 years ago, where he received the special care he needed. To know Emma was truly to love him. He had a way of lighting up every room he entered. My greatest memory of him will always be how he ran around in circles, smiling with his whole face, a joy that made everyone around him smile too.

Emma’s life was a gift, and though short, it touched many hearts. People are gathered in Kibuye, honoring his life. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

If a child has a safe and loving place to go after institutional care, then there was never a reason for them to be institutionalised in the first place. Let’s invest in preventative support and empower families.

Meet Little F: A Story of Resilience, true Support, and Famiy

Since 2023, we have walked alongside little F, a brave child living with hydrocephalus and other disabilities, providing consistent support for her health, nutrition, and medical needs. From medicines to milk, hospital visits to special care, we have been committed to helping her thrive within her own family, where love belongs.

Her mother, who struggled to care for her amidst numerous hospital bills and visits, received a wheelchair and ongoing monthly support. We first extended a grant of 600k UGX to cover essentials, and now her family receives consistent monthly support ranging from 100k–170k UGX.

Today, we celebrate a new milestone: her mother has received a 3M UGX grant, which she will use to pay her rent for a year and start a charcoal business—a choice we fully respect and support.

This is the AASU model: empowering parents as the true champions of their children, providing resources, guidance, and respect, and watching families thrive. We don’t just help children survive; we help families succeed.

At AASU, we set the standard for what child-centered, family-focused care looks like. We don’t just give aid, we invest in future independence and dignity.

Join us in celebrating families like little F’s. Together, we can transform lives without removing children from the warmth of their homes.

Good news update!
Miss E is doing so well with her family and thriving at school. Today she started her holiday and was even named Star of the Week! To make things even brighter, she received a wheelchair from the organisation partnering with us on her project. Yay!💜

Life just keeps getting better for her, and we couldn’t be more grateful to witness her journey.

Your support makes this possible, thank you for being part of her story.

Florence’s Smile Hides a Battle You Can’t See
This is Florence.
A mother who refuses to give up on her child, no matter how heavy the days feel.

Life has cornered her in a tiny room with cracked walls, a bed she shares with her child, and a handful of pots that carry the weight of all her hopes. The world may see poverty here. We see love.

Her son is at a dangerous crossroads. Without support, he could be placed in an orphanage, not because he is unloved, but because poverty can strip a mother of her ability to care. But nothing, nothing, can strip away a mother’s heart.

At Arise and Shine, we stand in that gap. We make sure mothers like Florence have what they need to keep their children in their arms, where they belong.
A little help, medical care, school fees, food, rent, can be the thin line between a child growing up with their mother’s embrace or behind the walls of an institution.

Every child deserves a mother’s love.
Every mother deserves a fighting chance.

Partner with us today. Your gift doesn’t just feed or clothe, it keeps families together.
Message us to find out how you can make a difference.

Baby Girl’s Big Day!
Today was the day, our sweet girl picked out her own outfit, and the excitement was in the air. Smiles stretched from ear to ear. Her mama and Tata were right there, waiting to pick her up from Arise and Shine.

She said goodbye to all the aunties and the other children she’s shared a joyful class with over the past few months. It was bittersweet. We’ll miss her beautiful smile, but our hearts are full seeing her so happy to go home with her parents and siblings.

For AASU, this is a huge victory. She is a child with special needs, and today she was successfully reintegrated with her family. A win is a win and this one is big!

We’re committed to supporting her and her family over the next six months, possibly longer if needed. Our mission is to see E thrive, and we’ll keep you updated on her progress and how her family is doing.

To make this transition smooth, we painted their home and packed our van and an entire truck with essential supplies. The family is overjoyed, and so are we!

This is what it’s all about. Stay tuned, we’ll be sharing more soon. 💛

S has been back with us for the past five months. The body truly keeps the score. Something may have triggered her, leading to another emotional breakdown. Every time she ate, she would throw up. Her foster mother reached out for help, as S had already lost a significant amount of weight.

We took her back in and started food therapy again. She has since regained her health, and next week, she will be returning home.

Thank you so much for your continued support—it truly makes a difference in the lives of our foster children when help is needed.

This week, we've focused on installing windows for the second building. We're hoping to create more space for looms and sewing machines. What started as a small project has now blossomed into a full-fledged creativity hub. With more mothers empowered, more children in our community are safe. We are deeply grateful to all who continue to support us. Stay tuned and we will keep you updated!

One of these boys was adopted as a toddler, and his family has been one of our best. They've made it a priority to visit his village once a year, only missing the trip during COVID. J has an incredible bond with his brothers; he cherishes his late mother’s story and loves visiting his home village. His brothers were also sponsored and have progressed far in their education. It’s such a beautiful sight to see the boys together, as they should be. I wish more adoptive parents understood the importance of this—giving their children the best of both worlds so they can better understand themselves and grow even fonder of both where they come from and where they are.

To all the parents who have honored their children's identities: your contribution is invaluable. You’re raising children who feel whole.
