The Community Hearing Healthcare Outreach was held yesterday at Azur Christian Health Centre, and we were pleased to participate in this important initiative.

The outreach provided essential services including hearing loss , ear cleaning, hearing aid services, and blood donation, helping to promote better hearing health and overall well-being within the community.

We were especially grateful to see our children living with Down Syndrome turn up and receive these valuable services. Their participation reminds us of the importance of ensuring that health services are accessible and inclusive for everyone.

A heartfelt appreciation to all the partners who made this outreach possible — Rotary Club of Hoima Kitara, Rotary Club of Kololo, Rotary Club of Hoima Kitara , Rotaract Club of Hoima School of Nursing, Hear His Voice Uganda, Azur Christian Health Centre, and all other supporters.
Together, we continue to promote inclusive healthcare and healthier communities where no one is left behind.

Rowan's Down Syndrome Awareness Center in partnership with TackleAfrica, our caregivers of children living with Down Syndrome were able to recieve training on sexual reproductive health and rights through sports. Parents were trained on transmitted diseases, family planning, how to use reusable sanitary pads and protecting children from abuse.
We believe this training is going to improve on the SRHR knowledge of our caregivers and protect their children more. Thankyou to our partner for making this possible.

Listening to the voices of caregivers is essential to understanding the realities of raising a child with Down syndrome.

Recently, Rowans Down Syndrome Awareness Centre - Hoima held discussions with caregivers in Hoima and Masindi to better understand their experiences. Many shared that Down syndrome was identified at a later stage because it was not recognized at birth. This delayed access to intervention and the support that families need during the critical early years.

Caregivers also highlighted challenges including heart defects, delayed developmental , gender-based violence, , and family breakdown. Despite these difficulties, they continue to show remarkablystrength and commitment to ensuring their children thrive.

These conversations reinforce the urgent need to increase about Down syndrome, strengthen the capacity of health workers to recognize the condition early, and ensure that families receive timely information, support, and . Together, we can build more inclusive communities where every child with Down syndrome is identified early, supported, and given the opportunity to reach their full potential.
