Wakadogo

Wakadogo We built Wakadogo charity school in 2008 in Gulu, northern Uganda. Wakadogo now provides education & nutrition for 441 students from nursery to primary 7.

Education:
Local educators have trained the teachers to the highest standard. They teach in Luo, the language of northern Uganda, as well as in English. Our aim is to encourage the students to converse in both languages fluently by the time they graduate from our school. We focus on teaching through play in order to provide the students with basic knowledge of cognitive, social, emotional and phys

ical skills. They are creating their first sense of identity. They can escape a life of poverty and hardship for a few hours each day so that they can be themselves and do what children should be doing – playing, interacting with others, singing, reading whilst learning. Health:
We have an onsite school nurse who looks after the wellbeing of both the children and staff, for example by treating common illnesses such malaria and ring worm. Having an onsite medical practitioner greatly helps diagnose illnesses early, which saves lives. School meals:
We provide free school meals to all of our students and staff. This allows them to concentrate on both learning and teaching. We have seen a dramatic improvement in the overall health of those who attend our school. This year we have started to offer a wider variety of food with improved nutritional value (for example pineapples and eggs).

📢📢📢🏆This is a huge moment for Wakadogo School athletics! 👟👟👟🌟

Our students have taken 1st place in the Kids Athletics Championship in Gulu City 2026 — an incredible achievement built on hard work, resilience, and belief.

When the results came in, the school erupted. Students and staff celebrated side by side, full of pride and excitement. To honour our athletes, we held a goat roasting ceremony in celebration of what they’ve accomplished together. 🌟

And we’re not stopping here!

Today, 5 of our athletes head to St. Joseph’s College Layibi to compete at the next level — representing Wakadogo.

The energy is high. The belief is strong. Let’s go, Wakadogos!! 🏆

A belated happy International Women’s Day! We’re taking a moment to celebrate the incredible girls and women in the Wakadogo community.

We are proud that all of our founding members are women - a group brought together by a shared belief that education can change the trajectory of a child’s life. That same spirit continues today through our teachers, mothers, mentors, and especially our students.

Our girls remind us that potential grows when curiosity, resilience, and opportunity come together in the classroom.

As Maya Angelou wrote:

“Each time a woman stands up for herself,
without knowing it possibly,
without claiming it,
she stands up for all women.”

To our students, teachers, mothers, and mentors - thank you for the strength and inspiration you bring to our community every day.

Caps off to our K3 and P7 students! 🎓✨

We celebrated our youngest and oldest primary learners at Wakadogo as they graduated from K3 and P7 – a beautiful reminder of why we do what we do.

From the first day walking through our gates, to reading their first stories, solving their first maths problems, learning to grow food, use technology, dance, sing and stand up with confidence our children have worked so hard to get here. We are incredibly proud of the kind, curious and resilient young people they are becoming. 💚

To our K3 graduates: this is just the beginning. You are ready for primary school, and we can’t wait to see you keep asking questions, trying new things and supporting your friends along the way. 🥹

To our P7 graduates: you are role models for the younger children. You leave Wakadogo with strong values, life skills and the courage to dream big. As you step into secondary school and beyond, remember that you always have a family here cheering you on. 🌟

Thank you to our dedicated teachers, parents, guardians and supporters around the world who walk beside our students every day. Your love, belief and support make celebrations like this possible.

Here’s to bright futures, bold dreams and many more milestones ahead. Congratulations, Wakadogos! 🎉

We are excited to share that all of our Vocational Training students successfully completed their UVTAB examinations – 49 young people sitting for courses in hairdressing, tailoring and production! 🎉

Behind every certificate is so much more than a skill. It’s confidence. It’s further the belief: “I can build my own future.”

At Wakadogo, we believe that quality education must go beyond the classroom. By giving our students practical skills and nurturing their entrepreneurial spirit, we’re helping them become young adults who can:
• Create their own jobs & build their own futures
• Lead with creativity, resilience and confidence

From a sewing machine to a salon chair to soap sold in the local market, we nurture entrepreneurial spirit. These programmes allow us to foster curiosity, develop life skills and bring classroom learning into practice. Production class is science, business 101, simple accounting and much more 🧪🌟

✨ A New Term, New Possibilities ✨
We are so excited to welcome back our students and team for the final term of this academic year! 💛

This term is filled with milestones: our annual school trip, graduation, and an important time for our students to shine as they prepare for their exams.

Every lesson, every challenge, every success brings them one step closer to their dreams. 🌟 Together, we’re building brighter futures.

Here is our Headteacher, Charles, addressing the school at assembly. We hold assembly every week, it’s a special time to connect, reflect, and share as a community. 🙌

No child should ever have to learn on an empty stomach.

At Wakadogo, every child receives breakfast and a nutritious lunch every single school day. Because we know that a full belly fuels not just the body, but the mind. It helps children concentrate, grow, and thrive.

Our school feeding programme is more than just meals it’s a lifeline for many families. By providing food, healthcare, and education all under one roof, we ease the burden on parents who might otherwise face impossible choices.

We believe that every child deserves the chance to learn, dream, and build a better future without hunger standing in the way.

🌱Education should nourish both minds and bodies — and that’s exactly what our hydroponic farm project is doing. Swipe to learn more from teach Scovia 🔍

Thanks to the incredible support of our donors, this project is bringing lasting impact to our entire school community:

🥗 Nutrition: Fresh, healthy greens from our farm are part of our daily feeding programme — boosting our students’ wellbeing and ability to learn.

🔬 Hands-On Science: It’s one thing to learn about ecosystems in class. It’s another to grow your own! Students are engaging with science in powerful, practical ways.

🌍 Life Skills & Sustainability: In a world where soil quality is declining and food security is under threat, we’re equipping our students with modern farming techniques that offer real solutions.

👩‍🌾 Community Learning: This project isn’t just for students — parents have also taken part, learning about hydroponic farming and exploring how these techniques can support their families and livelihoods.

🌿💚This is more than a school farm. It’s a source of nourishment, knowledge, and opportunity — made possible by the generosity and belief of our donor community.

At Wakadogo, we believe in the power of community to uplift, empower, and protect. 💛

Our school culture is rooted in respect, kindness, and support — and it’s strengthened by our Girls’ and Boys’ Clubs, where students meet regularly to share, listen, and grow together. These spaces help foster empathy, confidence, and a deeper understanding of one another.

Our guidance programme, led by Judith, complements this beautifully. With an open-door policy and an anonymous guidance box for those who may be too shy to speak up — or want to advocate for someone else — every child has access to support in the way that feels right for them.

Because when children feel safe, heard, and empowered, they thrive.

To some, these concrete slabs might look plain or unremarkable—but to us, they represent possibility.

This is the foundation of Wakadogo’s new Vocational Training Centre—a place where students will gain hands-on skills, unlock new opportunities, and build brighter futures not just for themselves, but for their families and communities.

Our goal is to nurture well-rounded students and tomorrow’s leaders—equipped with the confidence and skills to create their own opportunities and thrive in an ever-changing world.

This expansion of our vocational training programme is a step towards empowerment, resilience, and long-term impact.

We couldn’t have reached this milestone without the unwavering support of our donors—thank you for laying these foundations with us, quite literally. The future is being built right here.

⭐️⭐️⭐️Meet the heroes behind the scenes!⭐️⭐️⭐️
Today we’re proud to share a photo of our amazing support team in their brand new uniforms — our cooks, cleaners, and grounds team.

They are the quiet champions who keep Wakadogo running smoothly every single day. From preparing nutritious meals to keeping our classrooms spotless and our grounds beautiful, their hard work and care help make our school the safe, welcoming place it is.

Thank you for everything you do for Wakadogo and for looking after our students like family. We appreciate you more than words can say! 💜
