In Kasese’s mountainous rural areas, sunset often brings silence. Without electricity, families face limited mobility, reduced safety especially for women and girls, and interrupted education for school going children.

Through the Light A Village Solar Initiative, 20 households in Katumba Village now have access to clean, reliable solar power for lighting, charging, and essential needs. Safety has improved, children can now study after dark, and families are moving away from harmful energy sources especially kerosene lanterns (tadoba) and candles to cleaner alternatives.

Our objectives, partly being achieved through this flagship Light a Village Initiative, are in line with key Sustainable Development Goals:

Goal 4: Quality education

Goal 7: Clean and affordable energy

Goal 13: Climate action

With strong collaboration from local leaders, this community-driven solution is not only sustainable, it’s scalable. By fostering energy independence, we are lighting the path to better lives and a brighter future, powered by the sun.

When clean energy reaches the heart of mountainous, off-grid communities in Kasese, transformation begins,
communities grow stronger, safer, and more self-reliant.

The Isaka Kaihura Foundation is pleased to report the successful installation of 20 solar home systems in Katumba Village, Mahambo Parish, Bugoye Sub-county, Kasese District, under its flagship program, the Light A Village Solar Initiative.

This initiative is advancing rural prosperity by:

1) Empowering families with dependable, carbon-free lighting

2) Supporting children’s education through improved night-time study conditions

3) Enhancing safety and reducing reliance on kerosene and other non-renewable sources

At Isaka Kaihura Foundation, we believe that every home deserves light and every community deserves the tools to thrive. With every installation, we move closer to a sustainable, inclusive future where no one is left behind.

Together, we are illuminating lives and powering lasting change.
