Beekeeping serves as a low-cost, scalable nature-based solution that simultaneously supports ecosystem restoration, pollinator conservation, climate adaptation, and rural livelihood development.

At TDF, we are empowering youth through beekeeping training that blends indigenous knowledge with modern best practices. Through hands-on learning sessions, young people gain practical skills in safe hive management, sustainable honey harvesting, and maintaining healthy bee colonies across our project sites.

Beyond honey production, these trainings create pathways for income generation while promoting environmental stewardship. By equipping youth with practical beekeeping skills, we are contributing to biodiversity conservation, improved crop pollination, and stronger, more resilient livelihoods for future generations.

✨ We just wrapped a transformative one-year project: “Empowering Orphans & Vulnerable Children (OVCs) for HIV/AIDS Prevention: Awareness, Education, and Support”. Emergency funding bridged critical gaps, fueling immediate action, program continuity, and urgent support for vulnerable communities.

The goal: reduce HIV prevalence among OVCs and elevate their well-being through targeted prevention, comprehensive support, and integrated WASH practices - like hygiene education and safe water access. We tailored interventions to OVCs’ unique challenges, weaving in WASH to prevent secondary infections.

Equity drove us, addressing intersecting factors like gender and socioeconomic status inclusively.

Our collaboration with Kabarole and Bunyangabu districts has successfully brought SATO toilets to over 3,000 people, including schools, healthcare facilities, and homesteads.

In order to encourage improved sanitation practices in rural communities, we have trained more than 30 local masons to ensure proper installation and maintenance and provided supplies to 50 water and sanitation entrepreneurs.

The last mile still has to be unlocked because of pricing issues, even though the market is enabling many individuals to access services.

It’s evident that the support of youth-led start-ups in water and sanitation contributes to the achievement of Goal 6 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which aims to “ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all”.

While all SDGs are interlinked and support one another, access to water and sanitation is a foundation for development towards health, equity, gender equality and education. The success of many other SDGs relies on the achievement of WASH targets.

In alignment with the overall objective and goal of the WASH Impact Accelerator Program,

💦 Strengthening the enabling conditions for the WASH entrepreneurs will enhance integration between ministries, sectors and stakeholders towards supporting water, sanitation and hygiene initiatives

🤝 Connect young people with the relevant stakeholders

✍️ Document lessons and best practices for successful implementation of pilot projects.

School WASH Clubs are student-led programs designed to teach children about water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH).

The goal is to empower children to become champions for health and change in their communities. By instilling good hygiene and sanitation practices, we can transform entire societies within a generation.

These programs not only enhance learning time and decrease absenteeism, but they also teach children how to make a difference. Throughout the curriculum, students are taught how to be change agents who can positively impact the lives of others.

We are incredibly pleased of these students and the important contributions they have made—and will continue to make—to their communities!
