Driving Youth Employment, Digitalization, and Governance Through Innovation
At the Mountains of the Moon Hotel in Fort Portal, our dynamic team Ms. Bridget Brita Kigambo and Mr. Mugera Swabri had the honor of presenting our transformative work at Girl Potential Care Centre (GPCC) and Green Shero Ltd to European Union heads of cooperation.
This high-profile event, organized by GIZ-Uganda brought together key stakeholders, and development agency heads of cooperation including representatives from the Ministry of Health Uganda and the Minister of Tourism from the Tooro Kingdom, to discuss the intersection of youth employment, digitalization, governance, and gender inclusion.
Digitalization and Governance: The Role of GPCC and Green Shero Ltd
In the panel discussion, we highlighted how digital innovation and governance reforms are critical for youth-led economic empowerment in Uganda. Through GPCC’s Youth Scroll Lock Project, we have pioneered digital advocacy for Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), providing a youth-friendly platform for education and policy engagement. By integrating creative digital tools such as art, comics, and interactive storytelling, we empower young people to access reliable, unbiased information on health rights, gender equity, and digital literacy.
On governance, our work extends beyond advocacy. We engage policymakers in discussions on gender-sensitive digital policies, ensuring young women and marginalized youth have access to opportunities in leadership, employment, and technology. Our partnership with local and international stakeholders has helped bridge the digital divide, making governance more inclusive and participatory.
Job Creation and Economic Empowerment
At Green Shero Ltd, we turn waste into wealth, creating sustainable job opportunities for young people, women, and marginalized communities. Our initiatives in waste-based value addition, including organic fertilizers, eco-friendly crafts, and waste-to-energy projects, we have directly and indirectly have trained, involved and employed over 158 informal waste collectors and 12 female weavers, improving livelihoods in the Rwenzori region, where we create local innovative solutions and marketable products from waste to both contribute to reduction of waste pollution and create household income and sustainable product innovation ensuring they compete in a global economy while promoting environmental conservation.
Gender Inclusion and Representation
Women and girls remain central to our work. Through GPCC’s empowerment programs and Green Shero’s sustainable enterprises, we are breaking gender barriers by providing young women with access to training, employment, and leadership roles. We advocate for policy reforms that protect women’s rights, enhance digital access, and create safe, inclusive workspaces.
Impactful Change for Uganda’s Future
Our engagement at this event reaffirmed our commitment to scaling digital inclusion, governance reforms, and employment opportunities for youth and women in Uganda. Through policy advocacy, skill-building, and community-driven innovation, we continue to shape a future where every young person regardless of gender or background has the opportunity to thrive, lead, and create lasting impact.
