The *Buhweju Ecotourism Information Center - Home of Culture and Immersion* is CICD-UGANDA’s gateway to authentic, community-based tourism in the heart of Buhweju District. More than just an information hub, it is a living space where visitors connect directly with the people, traditions, and landscapes that make Buhweju unique. From rolling hills and tea plantations to sacred forests and waterfalls, the center serves as the starting point for experiences that celebrate nature while putting community livelihoods and heritage at the center.

You can visit *as an individual, family, or group*, and our trained community guides will take you through immersive, community-based tourism experiences. Walk through villages and learn traditional farming, crafts, and cooking. Take part in storytelling, dance, and music sessions with elders and youth. Trek to scenic viewpoints, visit local enterprises supported under the Livelihood Development Accelerator, and experience how culture and conservation go hand in hand. Every tour is designed to be respectful, interactive, and beneficial to the host community.

In 2026, the *Centre for Integrated Community Development-Uganda (CICD-UGANDA)* is scaling the *Buhweju Organization Programmes* to reach more households, schools, and communities across Buhweju District. Through our *Livelihood Development Accelerator Programme*,
we are implementing community-led action in *Eco-Tourism & Conservation, Agribusiness & Entrepreneurship, Knowledge Transfer, Innovation & Learning, and Health Promotion*.

The goal is simple: move vulnerable children, youth, and women from survival to enterprise, while restoring our wetlands, forests, and cultural heritage. When communities lead, impact is faster, deeper, and lasts.

We invite you to *partner with us in cash and in-kind* to make Community Impact 2026 possible. *Cash support* will fund training, mentorship, seed capital for cooperatives, tree seedlings for the Campaign, and operational costs to bring services closer to the people.

*In-kind support* such as farming inputs, learning materials, ICT equipment, tourism and hospitality tools, health supplies, and volunteer expertise will directly strengthen community groups and institutions on the ground.

*Buhweju Eco-Tourism and Cultural Festival Hiking Experience 25th July 2026*

On 25th July 2026, the rolling green hills of Buhweju District came alive for the Eco-Tourism and Cultural Festival Hiking Experience. Nestled in western Uganda, Buhweju is known for its misty tea plantations, deep valleys, and rich biodiversity. The hike brought together travelers, conservationists, and local communities to walk trails that wind through forests, farmlands, and viewpoints overlooking Lake George and the Rwenzori foothills. Every step was designed to highlight how tourism can protect nature while directly supporting the people who live there.

The trail itself was more than just a walk. Guides from Buhweju led groups through community forests, organic tea gardens, and wetland areas that are part of ongoing conservation efforts. Along the way, hikers learned about tree planting initiatives, beekeeping projects, and water source protection that local groups are running. The experience was slow and intentional, with stops for storytelling, bird watching, and tasting fresh produce from the gardens. It showed how eco-tourism in Buhweju is rooted in keeping the landscape healthy for future generations.

Culture was at the heart of the festival. At rest points and at the final grounds, visitors were welcomed with traditional music, dance, and drama from the Banyabuheju people. There were exhibitions of local crafts, barkcloth making, millet bread baking, and herbal medicine knowledge passed down through elders. The cultural village offered a chance to sit, eat, and talk with families, so the day felt less like a tour and more like being hosted by the community. For many Kampala-based visitors who made the trip, it was a rare chance to connect directly with rural traditions.

By the end of the day, the hiking experience left people with tired legs and full hearts. The Buhweju Eco-Tourism and Cultural Festival proved that adventure and heritage can go hand in hand. Proceeds from the event are channeled back into schools, trail maintenance, and conservation groups in the district. If you missed 25th July, the organizers are already planning to make this an annual gathering that celebrates Buhweju’s hills, its people, and the idea that travel can leave a place better than we found it.
