Our Executive Director, Mr. Ayume Francis Simon, proudly represented RED-NET Uganda at a 5-day training by DefendDefenders in Kampala, 10th–14th August 2026.

The training focused on physical and digital risk management and building skills for HRDs to stay safe while protecting human rights in the East and Horn of Africa region.

We’re grateful to DefendDefenders for the opportunity and support.
At RED-NET, we continue to invest in safety, knowledge, and resilience for our team and the communities we serve.

We are delighted that RED-NET Uganda was invited to join our partners and allies — the SIHA Network, CSOs, and members of various Parliamentary Committees — to discuss the domestication of the Maputo Protocol in Uganda.

We were represented by our Executive Director, Ayume Francis Simon. The event took place at Serena Hotel, Kampala.

As a signatory to the African Charter and a member state of the African Union, Uganda’s commitment to domesticating this protocol is a critical step toward advancing reproductive justice and the broader continuum of women’s rights and bodily autonomy.

RED-NET Joins the Next Creata Journey

A new chapter for young creatives in Arua City!🎥

Refugee Empowerment and Development Network RED-Net is proud to have been fully represented by its Field Coordinator at the launch and training of Cohort One of the Next Creata Programme, hosted by Host Hub Innovation Center in Arua City.

The programme brings together over 70 young creatives aged 18–35, equipping them with practical skills in content creation and video production, graphic design, social media management, digital storytelling, personal branding, freelancing, and creative entrepreneurship.

RED-NET also played an active role in mobilizing refugee young women to participate in the training, promoting their inclusion, visibility, leadership, skills development, and economic empowerment in the digital and creative economy.

RED-NET believes that investing in young people—especially refugee youth and young women—is essential to creating meaningful and sustainable opportunities while strengthening participation in the digital economy.

We appreciate Host Hub Innovation Center , Mastercard Foundation , International Trade Centre (ITC), Bayimba Foundation, and Next Media Foundation for creating this valuable opportunity for young people in Arua and across Uganda.

"Young people are not just consumers of the digital economy they are creators, innovators, and leaders shaping the future".Quoted RED-NET's Field Coordinator MR YAKANI

ARUA CITY YOUTH PARLIAMENT 2026

Refugee Empowerment and Development Network RED-Net joined Arua City and other development partners today and the world in commemorating International Youth Day 2026 under the theme “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”

As part of the commemoration, young people took centre stage at the Youth Parliament held at the District Council Hall, providing a platform for them to voice their concerns, present motions and engage duty bearers on issues affecting their lives and future.

The motions focused on key priorities including:

🔹 Youth unemployment, livelihoods and economic empowerment
🔹 Drug and substance abuse, mental health and wellbeing
🔹 Meaningful youth participation and accountable governance
🔹 Refugee protection, integration and peaceful coexistence
🔹 Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (ASRHR)
🔹 Environmental conservation and community service

The Youth Parliament is more than a celebration—it is a platform for young people to participate in governance, influence decisions and demand accountability on issues that matter to them.

The resolutions arising from the discussions will provide a basis for continued engagement between young people, Arua City Council, government, development partners and other stakeholders.
