Today SYLFU and other RLOs had a great conversation with the United States Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) representative - a non-profit organization that aims to protect and advocate for the rights of refugees, immigrants, and asylum seekers in the United States at the YSAT head office in Rhino Camp Refugee Settlement.

The USCRI works to:

1. Provide legal services and representation to refugees and immigrants.
2. Advocate for policies and legislation that protect the rights of refugees and immigrants.
3. Raise awareness about refugee and immigrant issues through education and outreach.
4. Support refugee resettlement and integration programs.
5. Provide resources and support to refugee and immigrant communities.

We discussed policy issues, Sexual reproductive health, climate refugees, resettlement, challenge issues that refugees face and others.
This was to ensure that refugee voices are heard on the world stage on the most pressing issues from the grassroots that community-based organizations/RLOs are part of and devote maximum efforts and their resources.

As we celebrate World Environment Day, Plastic wastes can just be everywhere around refugee camps that there impacts cannot be just ignored. This have greatly Led to plastic bottles ending in landfills affecting crop production leading to food insecurity as a results of poor crop yields.
Local technologies that encourage reuse can minimize pollution instead boosting for instance high crop yields around kitchen gardens as plastic wastes can be used for irrigation even during dry seasons to boost food production.
