šŸ¾ā¤ļø Meet Bilka ā¤ļøšŸ¾

Bilka was a homeless puppy living on the streets of Slavutych, Ukraine. While we were building and painting dog shelters, she followed me everywhere I went and quickly stole my heart.

Many people associate our work with the Dogs of Chernobyl program, but Bilka is not one of the dogs from the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone. She was rescued from Slavutych, the Chornobyl worker town where we also support homeless animals in need.

After much thought, I decided to adopt her and bring her home to Oregon. Today, she's safe, loved, and enjoying the life every dog deserves.

A special thank you to Dr. Laurel Anne Brenton and everyone at TU USA, Tiernothilfe Ukraine e.V. as well as SPCA International, for helping make Bilka's journey possible.

Welcome home, Bilka. šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡¦šŸ¾ā¤ļø

We are beyond devastated. The Chernobyl Museum was recently updated and renovated with thousands of dollars spent preserving the information and history of the Chernobyl disaster and last night it was destroyed by Russian target. This was no accident. It was calculated.

For people outside Ukraine, it may sound like ā€œjust a museum,ā€ but that place carried an enormous emotional and historical weight. The National Chornobyl Museum held artifacts, records, photographs, evacuation items, firefighter equipment, liquidator history—basically the memory of the disaster and the human cost around it. A lot of irreplaceable history was there.

And after everything already surrounding Chornobyl since the invasion—the occupation of the zone, trench digging in contaminated areas, the strikes near nuclear infrastructure, the damage to the New Safe Confinement—it feels especially symbolic and cruel.

I am beyond ANGRY!!

Rex is one of four dogs cared for by Ludmila in Slavutych. She uses what little money she has to feed and protect them.

Last week, someone set fire to the dogs’ sleeping area.

So I stepped in and bought them a new doghouse.

Yesterday, during a thunderstorm, Rex was terrified and ran to an apartment building for shelter. Instead of help, a man beat him nearly to death.

Rex is now in the hospital fighting for his life. We don’t know if he will survive.

Police have been called and there is an active investigation.

If you would like to help Ludmila or contribute to Rex’s emergency care, please reach out.

We have completed 230 spay and neuter surgeries in Slavutych, the city built for Chornobyl workers.

That’s 230 animals who won’t have to struggle to survive raising litters in an already harsh environment.
230 lives changed—and countless more prevented from suffering.

This work is only possible because of support from SPCA International and Supera Anesthesia Innovations. We are incredibly grateful for their sponsorship and belief in this mission.

But the reality is—we’re not done.
There are still so many animals here that need help.

If you’ve ever thought about supporting this work, now is the time.
šŸ’› $25 sterilizes a dog
šŸ’› $15 sterilizes a cat
šŸ’› $5 provides pain medication

Every single donation goes directly to helping these animals.

Please consider donating and being part of this mission.
