Masingini Forest Reserve was established in 1950s to conserve the main ground water source for Zanzibar town. This important water catchment area situated Western zones of Unguja Island has to be protected from erosion by keeping it covered forest. Most of the natural vegetation that covered Masingini was cleared for cultivation before the Forest reserve was established (CNR, 1995), mean while the

deforestation still continues do to increase on population around the reserve. This situation obviously result species disappearance within the ecosystem which is very crucial to our community, nation and International for today and future generation. This situation necessitate establishment of appropriate botanical garden.
