๐Ÿฅ” Today, we join the world in celebrating the International Day of Potato, recognizing the vital role that potatoes play in food security, nutrition, sustainable agriculture, and rural livelihoods.

As a resilient and nutritious crop, potatoes contribute significantly to improving farmers' incomes, strengthening food systems, and supporting sustainable agricultural development.

On this day, we honor farmers, researchers, extension workers, and all stakeholders who contribute to the sustainable production and value addition of potatoes.

Together, let's promote innovation, climate-smart agriculture, and sustainable food systems for a healthier and more food-secure future.

we believe that healthy communities begin with nutritious food and sustainable farming practices.
By engaging youth in vegetable production and climate-smart agriculture, we are promoting access to fresh, healthy, and nutrient-rich foods while strengthening food security for families and schools.

Good nutrition is essential for growth, learning, health, and a brighter future.

Farmer-led research plays a critical role in integrating farmersโ€™ indigenous practices with scientific knowledge to promote resilient agroecological farming systems. This approach has been validated through experimental research sites established under the Building Resilience with Trees project (FORI II-Project).

This is among the experimental sites established at Nyumbanitu village , testing different agroecological innovations including use of soil amendments, agroforestry system, conservation agriculture and other GAPs, aiming to retain soil moisture, soil fertility, control pests and diseases, hence improves biodiversity and productivity.

๐ŸŒฑ Exchange Visit ๐ŸŒฑ

We successfully conducted an enriching exchange visit at Iteni Village, Wangingโ€™ombe District, bringing together farmers from different villages to learn, share, and strengthen their knowledge on bean production under changing climate conditions.

During the visit, farmers had the opportunity to explore practical, field-based solutions to challenges caused by climate change, including:
โœ”๏ธ Selection of climate-resilient bean varieties
โœ”๏ธ Improved soil fertility and water management practices
โœ”๏ธ Effective pest and disease control strategies
โœ”๏ธ Adoption of sustainable farming techniques to increase productivity and resilience

This interactive learning approach allowed farmers to exchange experiences, observe best practices, and gain hands-on skills that can be applied in their own farms to improve yields and livelihoods.

We were also honored to be joined by our partners CIAT and TARI whose technical expertise greatly enriched the learning experience.

๐ŸŒฑ Soil Health Management Workshop โ€“ Mbozi DC ๐ŸŒฑ

On 23rd March, we successfully conducted a Soil Health Management Workshop led by Ms. Eija from Finland. The workshop brought together NADO staff, Local Government Authority (LGA) representatives, extension officers, and smallholder farmers from Ihanda, Hasamba, and Bara wards at Mbozi District Council.

The training focused on strengthening farmersโ€™ knowledge and practical skills on sustainable soil management practices, including:
โœ… Understanding soil health and its importance for crop productivity
โœ… Techniques to improve soil fertility using organic matter and compost
โœ… Prevention and management of soil degradation (erosion, salinization, and compaction)
โœ… Importance of soil testing and proper use of inputs
โœ… Enhancing soil water retention and conservation practices
โœ… Promoting sustainable land use for long-term productivity

Participants actively engaged in discussions, sharing experiences and local solutions to improve soil conditions in their farms. The workshop emphasized the critical role of collaboration between farmers, extension officers, and local authorities in ensuring sustainable agriculture and food security.

๐Ÿ‘ We appreciate the valuable contribution of our twinning partner,Ms. Eija and all participants for making this workshop impactful and successful. Together, we continue building resilient farming systems for a sustainable future!

๐ŸŒฑ We are proud to promote agroforestry among school children โ€” nurturing a generation that understands the value of trees, food security, and environmental protection.
Our young champions got their hands in the soil, planting trees that will:
๐ŸŒณ Improve soil fertility
๐ŸŒณ Protect the environment
๐ŸŒณ Provide food for the future
๐ŸŒณ Fight climate change
By teaching children the importance of agroforestry, we are planting not just trees โ€” but knowledge, responsibility, and a greener future. ๐Ÿ’š

Let us continue empowering young minds to protect our planet!
