Did you know that at our secondary school, learning goes far beyond books and classrooms? This is more than just a school for students; it is a community they take pride in.

That sense of ownership is reflected in how they spend their free time. Students willingly help in the kitchen and take care of shared spaces, contributing to a clean, organized, and welcoming environment.

These everyday experiences build practical life skills while also strengthening responsibility, independence, teamwork, and respect for shared spaces. It is encouraging to see students actively involved, taking initiative, and growing into confident young people who value their school.

Employee Spotlight
He Doesn’t Just Manage, He Builds: 12 Years with Nobert Urio

For the past 12 years, Nobert Urio has faithfully served at Neema International as operations manager. His work has played an important role in shaping both the organization and the lives of the children it supports.

Nobert is recognized for his practical, hands-on leadership and his commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment for children to learn and grow. He has personally managed and actively participated in the construction of several key facilities, including the food store, sports equipment store, computer classroom, and nursery classrooms. From planning to ex*****on, he remains closely involved to ensure each space is functional and beneficial for the children.

In addition to construction work, Nobert oversees infrastructure development and procurement across the organization. His role helps ensure that daily operations run smoothly and that the learning environment remains safe, organized, and well-maintained.

His journey reflects consistency, hard work, and purpose. Before joining the organization, Nobert began as a volunteer while supporting himself through small-scale farming activities, including growing vegetables and selling chickens. Even during this time, his commitment to working with children remained strong, gradually shaping the path that led to his long-term service.

One of his strongest inspirations is Helena, now working as a medical laboratory assistant at Mount Meru Hospital in Arusha. He witnessed her journey from the beginning, from receiving educational support to studying medical laboratory science in India and finally returning to work in the medical field. Her transformation continues to remind him that with the right support, dedication, and opportunity, meaningful change is possible.

Learning becomes more meaningful when children can see, practice, and understand.

At Neema International, we are creating a safe and supportive learning environment where children like Nancy can grow in knowledge, confidence, and practical skills. Through hands-on science lessons and real laboratory experience, students are able to explore, ask questions, and truly understand what they are learning.

“This experience makes me confident. I am learning real skills that will help me in the future,” says Nancy.

When children learn by doing, they remember more, think deeper, and build confidence for the future. Every lesson, every experiment, and every opportunity helps shape brighter futures.

Learning Beyond the Classroom, Growing with Compassion

Our students recently visited the Gabriella Children’s Rehabilitation Centre for a learning experience outside the classroom. The trip focused on community service and growing our empathy for children with disabilities and special needs.

During the visit, our students actively participated in daily activities. They shared meals, helped wash the dishes, cleaned the dining area, and spent time playing together with the children who have special needs.

The visit also gave students a clear look at what care work involves. For those interested in pursuing therapy careers, it was a valuable chance to see the profession in action and understand what it takes to support children in their daily development. Overall, this shared experience helped our students improve their communication, practice respectful interaction, and build practical problem-solving skills.

Children need time to play, laugh, run around, and just be kids. Play helps them grow, learn, and feel happy. It is not a luxury, it is something every child needs.

At Neema International, we have seen what that freedom does. A shy child finds their voice. A friendship grows from a simple game. That is not just play. It is a child becoming who they are meant to be.

At Neema International, we believe every child deserves a safe, healthy place to learn and grow. When children feel truly safe and loved, their happiness and confidence naturally shine through.

We cannot get enough of this beautiful smile; she is absolutely adorable.

Meet Witness, a 12-year-old girl whose one decision changed her life forever.

Witness is in Standard Seven at our pre and primary school in Uru Village, but her journey to get there is nothing short of extraordinary.

When Neema first met Witness, she was just three years old. Neema visited her home and saw the reality of her situation: Witness was living with her grandmother, with no way to attend school, no regular meals, no proper guidance, and no clear path forward. There was very little hope.

But Neema made a decision that would change everything.

From that moment, Neema became a consistent presence in Witness’s life, providing the basic needs, the love, and the stability she had never known. For the first time, Witness had someone in her corner.

Today, Witness walks with confidence. She has a dream: to become an accountant, because she believes financial knowledge empowers people to manage their lives and build better futures. That quiet, determined dream belongs to a girl who once had nothing, and now has everything she needs to reach it.

“Neema has been a part of my journey toward a better future,” she says. “I get all the basic needs here and a love I never thought I would have.”

Sometimes one act of support changes the direction of a child’s life forever.

When Erick came to Neema International in 2015, he was only 5 years old. His grandparents loved him deeply, but life had become too difficult for them to provide the care and opportunities he needed. Today, Erick is 16 years old, studying in Form Two and dreaming of becoming a doctor.

Erick’s grandmother shares her emotions, her gratitude, and the question that still remains in her heart: what would Erick’s life look like if Neema had never existed?

Because of your support, a child found hope, a family found relief, and a future became possible. Thank you for standing with children like Erick and reminding families that they are not alone.

There is something special about that time right after lunch break when the pressure of the classroom fades and the real personalities come out. Our kids at our pre and primary school wasted no time pulling their teacher into the fun, laughter, energy, and big smiles all around. These are the moments that make every day at school worthwhile.

"She was 19 years old. She had never planned to stay. But then she met the children, and everything changed."

When Mandy Stein first arrived in a small village at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro, she saw what most people look away from: children orphaned by poverty, growing up without education, healthcare, or anyone to fight for them. She didn't look away. She stayed. She built schools. She launched Uru Academy, Kilimanjaro's first early childhood center, so that no child would miss the most critical years of their development just because of where they were born. She started a child sponsorship program so each child would have someone who believed in their future. Today, over 400 children in Tanzania know what it feels like to be seen, supported, and loved. Not because of luck. Because of her.

To the woman who turned one visit into a lifetime of love, Happy Mother's Day, Mandy Stein. From every child at Neema whose dream you helped grow, we love you.

You can help break the cycle of poverty for another child just like them. 👉 Sponsor a child at ww.neemainternational.org
