A Good Way to Spend the Weekend: Planting Trees

We are grateful to have spent today planting fruit trees together with the Anieli Foundation, building on our ongoing commitment to protecting the environment and supporting the communities that depend on it.

For our students, the experience was more than putting trees in the ground. It was a chance to learn that caring for the environment is something we all have a part in. The choices we make today shape the kind of world children grow up in tomorrow.

Ismail, one of our students, shared why he chose to plant a tree and become an ambassador for tree planting at our secondary school:

“I did not plant this tree just for myself. I planted it to set an example for others.”

He hopes that seeing students take action will encourage more people to understand that protecting our environment is a shared responsibility.

Sometimes, a lesson does not happen inside a classroom. Sometimes, it begins with a small tree, a pair of hands, and a child who believes that what we do today can change the world tomorrow.

Thank you to the Anieli Foundation for joining us in giving our students this opportunity to learn and take action.

Every child brings their own unique personality to our pre and primary schools, and it is a privilege to watch them grow, learn, and express who they are.

Meet Greniys, a bright and confident young girl whose energy brings joy to those around her. She loves dancing, discovering new ideas, and exploring the world with curiosity. Whether she is learning something new in class or sharing her creativity through movement, Greniys approaches each moment with excitement and confidence.

Her dream is to become a nurse one day, a goal that reflects her caring nature and desire to help others. Watching her grow, build her confidence, and follow her dreams is a reminder of the unique potential every child carries.

A proud moment for our secondary school.

FEASSSA (Federation of East African Secondary Schools Sports Associations) brings together secondary school students from across East Africa to compete, learn, and celebrate the power of sport. This year, five of our girls have earned the opportunity to represent Tanzania at the games in Morogoro.

For Nancy, one of the selected players, this moment means a lot:
“Being among the 12 girls selected to represent Tanzania at the FEASSSA Games is a great honor for me. I am very happy and proud of myself.”

This achievement is a reminder of what can happen when students are given opportunities, support, and the space to grow. We are grateful to our donors and supporters who have helped us provide the facilities, equipment, and encouragement that allow our students to discover their talents and reach new heights.

Seeing our girls step onto the international stage is one of the many outcomes of that support.

We are proud of you, girls. Go and represent Uru Community Secondary School, Neema International, and Tanzania with pride.

What Can a School Garden Teach Beyond the Classroom?

The Neema Garden has become one of the favourite extracurricular activities at our secondary school. During their free time, students enjoy working together to grow various vegetables, including carrots, okra, eggplant, and other seasonal crops. From preparing the soil and planting seeds to watering and caring for the garden, they take responsibility for every stage of the growing process.

The garden gives students practical knowledge that goes beyond the classroom. They learn how to grow vegetables in small spaces, understand the importance of healthy food, and develop a greater appreciation for caring for the environment. As they watch their crops grow, they also experience the satisfaction that comes from patience, consistency, and hard work.

Mr Matola, the teacher who leads the garden programme, has seen how these experiences shape the students. He explains that when children witness the results of their efforts, they become more confident and motivated to take on new challenges. Seeing the vegetables they have grown prepared and served in the school kitchen reminds them that even small contributions can make a meaningful difference.

More than just a garden, this is a place where students build responsibility, teamwork, confidence, and practical life skills that will stay with them long after they leave school.

Learning computer skills is an important part of life at Neema International Secondary School.

During today’s computer session, our students continued building practical digital skills that support their learning, encourage creativity, and prepare them for the opportunities of tomorrow. As technology becomes part of everyday life, gaining confidence in using computers helps students succeed both in school and beyond.

Every lesson is another step in helping them learn, grow, and work towards their dreams.

As we continue expanding learning opportunities for our students, we are still in need of essential items to strengthen our classrooms and learning environment. If you would like to support Neema International, here are some of the items we are currently seeking:

• Technology (laptops, desktops, tablets, headphones, keyboards, and other ICT equipment)
• Sports equipment
• Gym and fitness equipment
• Art supplies (glitter, pom-poms, feathers, googly eyes, etc.)
• Backpacks and water bottles
• Watches
• Pens and pencils
• Glue and scissors
• Whiteboard markers
• Teen and adult running shoes and flip-flops

Every contribution, no matter the size, helps create more opportunities for our students. Thank you for supporting their education and future.

Library Time at Our Pre- and Primary School

A simple moment of sharing a book becomes a chance for children to read together, exchange ideas, and enjoy learning from one another.

A caring conversation can mean more than we realize.
Our matrons are there for the everyday moments that matter. Whether a child needs encouragement, someone to listen, or quiet reassurance, they take the time to be present and offer support.

By building trust and showing genuine care, our matrons help children feel safe, valued, and confident as they grow.
