At our secondary school, we make space for our students to run, play, and simply be themselves. A student who feels happy, safe, and confident learns better and grows better.

Here, school is more than a classroom. It is a place where every student feels they belong.

Employee Spotlight: Theresia Chua: Nine Years of Cooking, Caring, and Making a Difference

For nine years, Theresia has worked as a cook at Neema International. For her, cooking is about more than preparing meals. It is about caring for children, supporting her family, and being part of a community that makes a difference in people's lives.

Before joining Neema International, Theresia struggled to meet her family's basic needs and pay school fees for her children. Working at Neema International brought greater stability to her family's life, provided health insurance for her family, and helped her support her children's education. Today, some of her children are employed, while others are pursuing their studies at university.

One of the things that motivates Theresia most is seeing the children grow and thrive. She remembers a child who arrived at Neema malnourished and emotionally distressed after being rescued from a difficult family situation. Today, the child is healthy and doing well at school. Seeing this progress reminds Theresia that the care she provides through her daily work contributes to the children's well-being.

Theresia considers Neema her second home. She loves cooking, seeing the children enjoy the meals she prepares, and teaching them practical cooking skills. Supporting the children while doing something she loves gives her a sense of purpose and makes her proud to be part of their journey.

After nine years at Neema International, Theresia continues to find joy in her work and in being part of a community where she can care for children while providing for her own family.

Happy Teachers’ Day to the wonderful teachers who show up for our children every day.

A caring teacher is behind every lesson, every answered question, every word of encouragement, and every child who begins to believe in themselves.

Our children are growing, learning, discovering their abilities, and building dreams for their future here at Neema International. We are grateful to the teachers who guide, encourage, listen to, and support our children every step of the way.

Counseling Sessions at Our Secondary School

When a child is carrying worries or has a lot on their mind, it can be difficult to focus on their studies. That is why, at our secondary school, we make sure our students have someone they can talk to.

We have teachers who care about every child, a clean and safe school where students can feel comfortable, and a counselor who is there to listen and offer guidance when needed.

All of this is part of creating a supportive environment where our children can look after their well-being, stay focused in class, and continue working toward their dreams.

Saying goodbye is never easy, but witnessing one of our own pursue his dream fills us with pride.

Lamech was raised by a grandmother who struggled deeply to keep him in school, overcrowded classrooms, missing exercise books, and days sent home for unpaid fees. Still, he worked hard and ranked top of his class. In September 2014, his grandmother's search for help led him to our Neema family.

From that day on, Neema International supported his education, providing textbooks, computer supplies, and full tuition through Feza Boys and university. With this support, Lamech had the opportunity to focus on his education and continue working towards his goals.

Now heading to China to begin his master's degree, Lamech stayed true to his passion, teaching and mentoring our younger children. The handmade cards and notes from our kids say it all, the love he gave, he gave fully.

Watching him grow into the confident, capable young man he is today, ready to become a university lecturer, is precisely the future we dream of for every child in our care: a chance to work towards whatever they believe they can achieve.

There is a natural sense of connection when you spend time with these students in class. They are comfortable with each other and with their teachers, creating a space where they feel safe, accepted, and free to learn and grow.

These students have been together for a while, and their friendships continue to grow stronger as they settle into secondary school life.

A safe, loving environment does not just happen on its own; it is built by the people who show up every single day for our children. From sitting down to share a meal and guiding them through books in the library to playing together outside on the swings, our staff brings life to everything we do. Their patience, dedication, and daily care ensure that every child at Neema International feels fully supported, valued, and safe enough to grow.
