STORY TIME!! (a must read) Meet Mama Dully. ❤️

Mama Dully is the mother of one of the boys who was part of the old orphanage program. She lives in the village of Misungwi, and this is the home she built with her own hands.

For many of us in the Western world, we might look at her home and immediately focus on what it lacks—a curtain serves as the front door, the floor is dirt, and there is no toilet or outhouse. The small straw-and-mud hut beside her house is her kitchen (which is honestly amazing!).

But what stands out most about Mama Dully isn't her circumstances—it's her spirit.
Despite facing challenges that many of us can hardly imagine, she never complains. She carries a joy that seems to come from somewhere deeper than her circumstances. Life can be incredibly difficult, yet she consistently shows up with gratitude, determination, and a smile.

Mama Dully has never had the opportunity to attend school and cannot read or write, yet she is one of the smartest, most resourceful, and proactive women we know.
She has faithfully participated in the Sozo business training program and artisan workshops. She is always the first to arrive, eager to learn, grow, and create. Through these trainings, she has learned to make beautiful tie-dye and batik products that can be sold in larger markets.

These new skills will help her generate income, provide for her family, and continue building a brighter future for those she loves so dearly.

Mama Dully reminds us that strength, wisdom, and perseverance are not measured by education, possessions, or circumstances. They are revealed through courage, hard work, and hope.

We are honored to walk alongside women like Mama Dully as they create opportunities for themselves, their families, and their communities. ❤️

🌽Sweet Corn Harvest on the land!🌽 For the first time, our friends in Misungwi were able to taste the goodness of sweet corn. In the western world, juicy, sweet corn is a regular and quite normal food for people to eat. This is very new for them in the village. The local corn here is very hard, and mostly used for making flour and/or cooked over fire and chard as a crunchy snack- which they do enjoy! After tasting the sweet corn, they said it was delicious and they loved it! We love watching their joy after a beautiful harvest, especially when it's something new. MANY MORE HARVESTS TO COME! 😎

Training and equipping is in full swing for the families within SOZO. We couldn't be more proud of the local team for organizing and leading a wonderful business training program.

🌍 Each session combined practical business skills and spiritual discipleship which creates an opportunity for personal and professional growth.

🌍 Their first workshop training was in the Art of Batik. They learned how to use their creativity to create beautiful pieces that they can sell at the local and international markets. Through the next few weeks new art forms will be added such as sewing, candle making and clay working.

♥ This has cultivated joy and hope in them as they continue to work hard towards building their futures and supporting their families on their own! The best is yet to come!!

Sweet Corn is being planted on the Sozo land! This is a different variety of corn than the "local corn" that is planted to make flour.

Two of the children recently reunited with their mother were born with deformities in their hands and feet, making it difficult to find shoes that fit properly. Thanks to your generous donations, they were able to be measured and fitted for custom handmade shoes! These new shoes not only fit perfectly, but will also last a long time which is helping the children walk more comfortably and feel more confident every day. FAMILIES HELPING FAMILIES ❤️

A few months ago, we helped move Kabulah’s family into a safe apartment—and soon learned that most of her siblings had never been to school and wouldn’t be able to join in at their level.
Joyce, Jesca’s older sister (and certified teacher!) had just moved to the area to help out their Mom and was looking for work. She now tutors Kabula’s siblings full-time, helping them catch up on years of missed learning—while also earning a dignified income to support her own family! 🙌🏻
Mika—our other teacher friend—has now enthusiastically joined in to help Joyce with growing needs and is investing greatly into these kids.
We’ve also recently launched “Tutoring Saturdays” for all kids from SOZO who’ve been struggling in school due to harsh, fear-based classroom environments.
Now, every Saturday, they come to a safe, loving space where they can ask questions, make mistakes, and learn without fear. They also enjoy lunch together and a small treat! 🕺🏿
In just SIX WEEKS, we’re already seeing growth—not just in grades, but in confidence. 🙏🏽Thank you for being part of this journey!
