STORY TIME!! (a must read) Meet Mama Dully. ❤️
Mama Dully is the mother of one of the boys who was part of the old orphanage program. She lives in the village of Misungwi, and this is the home she built with her own hands.
For many of us in the Western world, we might look at her home and immediately focus on what it lacks—a curtain serves as the front door, the floor is dirt, and there is no toilet or outhouse. The small straw-and-mud hut beside her house is her kitchen (which is honestly amazing!).
But what stands out most about Mama Dully isn't her circumstances—it's her spirit.
Despite facing challenges that many of us can hardly imagine, she never complains. She carries a joy that seems to come from somewhere deeper than her circumstances. Life can be incredibly difficult, yet she consistently shows up with gratitude, determination, and a smile.
Mama Dully has never had the opportunity to attend school and cannot read or write, yet she is one of the smartest, most resourceful, and proactive women we know.
She has faithfully participated in the Sozo business training program and artisan workshops. She is always the first to arrive, eager to learn, grow, and create. Through these trainings, she has learned to make beautiful tie-dye and batik products that can be sold in larger markets.
These new skills will help her generate income, provide for her family, and continue building a brighter future for those she loves so dearly.
Mama Dully reminds us that strength, wisdom, and perseverance are not measured by education, possessions, or circumstances. They are revealed through courage, hard work, and hope.
We are honored to walk alongside women like Mama Dully as they create opportunities for themselves, their families, and their communities. ❤️
