Shaloom community and environmental management organization is non-governmental organization, which is newly registered under Iringa Municipal council as community – based organization on 11th of April 2014 and given the registration number IR/IMC/CBO/449. That is where the organization got the mandate to operate in Iringa Municipality. To start with SCEMO has started its operations in Iringa Municipal. The main goal of the organization is to improve the livelihoods of the rural communities, address environment and ecological Rehabilitation of natural resources, improved community economy (household economy), health, water, sanitation, education, culture and sports. SCEMO as an organization is relatively new but it has great potentials in the implementation of its programs and project. The organization believes in the highly researched interventions, transparent system and procedures
where the community accountability is seen as the key factor for development before any intervention. SCEMO values professionalism and reward for good work, in regard of the above situation the organization has the advisory board of which her members are drawn amongst the competent authorities in the country. SCEMO board members are of mixed backgrounds from the politicians, academicians and some are professionals from different professional walks of life. Being a newly registered
organization there are challenges of starting interventions without well grounded research but SCEMO takes this as temporary challenges which need to be sorted out with the endeavors of the members and board members. SCEMO considers district councils are the core partners in the implementations of organizational activities. This is due to the fact that SCEMO plans are fitted with the operational plans of the respective Streets, Wards and District hence SCEMO plays a complimentary role in the development of the respective district. Other areas of partnership with the district council are the expertise which is highly underutilized in the districts due to inadequate resources for the implementation of the projects and programmes at different levels. SCEMO is gender conscious organization the fact that is also reflected in the board members appointments, the organization is non tribal, non religious, non partisan, non segregative in anyway. The organization is equal opportunity employer and believes in professional conduct. The management of resources are according to the policies of the organization, guidelines and the most important is realization of the value for what the organization is set for. The beneficiaries are meant to take lead of the interventions SCEMO has so far implemented one project which was purely funded by the members
and that was provision of loans to youth and women through their established foundations in Iringa Municipality. The organization believes when the local resources are combined with the funding of the projects/programmes and all these are handled in a transparent and with sense of responsibility from the implementing partner and community members then sustainability and continuity of the activities is assured.
