This week marked an important step for foundational learning in Njombe Region as Uwezo Tanzania engaged with the Njombe Regional Secretariat alongside Regional Education Officers, District Education Officers and District Academic Officers from all six district councils to discuss the expansion of the Jifunze Model across the region.

The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration to improve foundational literacy and numeracy through sustainable, government-led approaches. The engagement concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Uwezo Tanzania and the Njombe Regional Secretariat to support the scaling and institutional strengthening of the Jifunze Model in Njombe Region.

This partnership reflects a shared commitment to ensuring every child gains foundational learning skills and highlights the power of collaboration in addressing learning poverty and building a stronger future for children.

On 2nd April 2026 we stood among changemakers at the What Works Hub for Global Education convening at the British Council sharing how the My Village Projectby Uwezo Tanzania is transforming learning from the ground up.

As Tanzania Institute of Education and partners drive the K*K Strategy (Kusoma, Kuandika, Kuhesabu)one truth is clear
Communities are not beneficiaries they are taking part in making change.

Through the Jifunze methodology inspired by TaRL we are not just improving learning we are redefining it:
286 schools reached
489 wards engaged
870+ teachers & volunteers empowered
168,599 children supported
191,005 parents activated

This is what happens when evidence meets ownership When learning leaves the classroom and lives in the community.

Strengthening the teacher workforce is central to improving learning outcomes in Tanzania. At the Teacher Workforce Planning Dialogue in Dodoma government and partners reflected on key findings from the Teacher Life Cycle brief and identified priority actions to improve planning, deployment and support systems for teachers. The discussions emphasized the importance of aligning teacher supply with demand strengthening data systems for informed decision making and ensuring equitable deployment particularly in underserved areas.

A consistent message throughout the dialogue was the need to move from strong policy frameworks to more coordinated and data driven implementation. Improving how the system functions is critical to ensuring that teachers are well prepared effectively supported and able to deliver quality instruction in the classroom. For Uwezo these discussions reinforce the importance of keeping learning.

Earlier today, we had the honor of attending the Malkia wa Nguvu event by Clouds TV a powerful platform bringing together women entrepreneurs and business leaders driven by purpose, resilience, and impact.

At Uwezo Tanzania, we are intentionally working to engage and inspire entrepreneurs, corporates and businesswomen to invest in children’s education recognizing that sustainable change requires both economic empowerment and deliberate investment in learning.

We believe that when women rise in business and other key sectors, they are uniquely positioned to influence communities, shape priorities, and champion education for the next generation. By strengthening this connection, we are fostering a movement where successful women become active drivers of improved learning outcomes for children.

Moments like these reaffirm our commitment to building bridges between women’s economic empowerment and children’s education, ensuring that progress today translates into opportunity for tomorrow.
