PATBOARD VP ATTENDS STAKEHOLDERS ROADSHOW

Recently the Uganda High Commission in Tanzania held a stakeholders roadshow event for Ugandan and Tanzanian tour operators.
Pan Africa Tourism Board (PATBOARD) was represented by Vice President for Southern Africa Mr Andreas Simon.
“The event was well put together, and it was a display of not just opportunities in the Tourism sectors of both countries, but also a chance to promote collaboration between key stakeholders,” he said.
The highlight of the fully attended event was the official signing of the MOU between the Uganda Tourism Association (UTA), the Tanzania Tour Operators Association (TATO) and the Zanzibar Association of Tour Operators (ZATO).

On behalf of PATBOARD President, VP Simon congratulated the signatories and reminded them to honor the objectives laid-out in the newly signed understanding between the parties.

The Roadshow engagement is an initiative of the High Commission of Uganda in Tanzania.

PATBOARD IMPRESSES AT THE UN TOURISM MEETING

At the 2nd UN Tourism Regional Congress on Women’s Empowerment in Africa, the Pan Africa Tourism Board President met the UN Tourism Secretary General Shaikha Al Nowais.

The Secretary General praised PATBOARD’s work on ‘Sustainable Tourism for All’ and committed to strategic collaboration.

Four Areas of Collaboration Identified:

1. Heritage Protection– Global support for the Pan Africa Heritage Seal_covering sites, handcrafts, artwork & cultural products
2. Women’s Empowerment– Scale the Ushanga High Rising Initiative_for women/youth artisan jobs
3. Investment-Co-host Tourism Deal Rooms to connect African projects with global capital
4. Policy Alignment– Unite 54 countries through the Pan Africa Tourism Summit

Impact:
Accelerates AU Agenda 2063 and UN SDGs 1, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 16 & 17. Positions Africa as a unified, sustainable tourism leader.

UN Tourism SG called PATBOARD “a continental game-changer” redefining tourism as sustainable, Said it’s inclusive and heritage-driven.

The High Commissioner of South Africa to Tanzania - H.E. Ms. Noluthando Mayende-Malepe invited Her Excellency, Amb. Mariam Lesian, the President of the Pan Africa Tourism Board to commemorate Freedom Day in Tanzania.

Her Excellency was represented by Andreas Simon, the Vice- President for Southern Africa in PATBOARD. During the commemoration and on behalf of H.E. Amb Mariam, Vice President Simon reminded the delegation of seven High Commissioners on the importance of Freedom Day. He further mentioned that the day reminds South Africans of the great sacrifices made by the country’s national heroes, particularly Nelson Mandela.

Freedom day is an annual celebration held on 27 April in South Africa.

Ms. Medylaine Muturiki, the new Chief Operating Officer of Pan Africa Tourism Board is a distinguished luxury hospitality, tourism and wellness executive with over 18 years of experience driving high-impact projects across Africa. Recognized for delivering strategic growth, operational excellence, and transformative wellness concepts, her work spans the development and repositioning of hotels, resorts, and integrated wellness destinations for global competitiveness.

Ms. Muturiki currently serves as Area Director for Southern Africa at Boulevard Hotels and Resorts, where she leads regional expansion, investor engagement, and operational strategy across multiple markets. WANJIKÚ WAIRIA APPOINTED GLOBAL AMBASSADOR | DIPLOMACY & GOVERNANCE

On behalf of the President of the Pan Africa Tourism Board (PATBOARD), we are pleased to announce the appointment of Wanjikú Wairia from Kenya as Global Ambassador | Diplomacy & Governance.

A Pan-African policy diplomat and governance architect, Ambassador Wanjikú brings over two decades of experience across global policy architecture, board governance, ESG leadership, and multilateral engagement in Africa, Eurasia, and global systems.

She has advised governments, multilateral institutions, and global corporations, and has held senior leadership roles within the G20 and OECD ecosystems, contributing to global dialogue on inclusive climate justice, just transitions, and energy democracy.

In her role at PATBOARD, she will support the advancement of governance coherence, strategic diplomacy, and heritage-centred continental collaboration—strengthening Africa’s positioning as a unified and globally competitive tourism destination.

Her work is grounded in an Afrocentric and Global South–anchored lens, advancing integrated approaches across governance, climate, energy, and sustainable development systems.
