We are a non-profit and non-governmental organisation called Community of
Hope and Support (CHS) based in Tanzania formed for the purpose of giving Voice
to the LGBTI people in Tanzania and Africa at Large by fighting Homophobia
among the people We believe that LGBTI can finally find the world a better place to live together
with straight people; this is only possible by striving to fight homophob
ia, Transphobia, Heterosexism from our
society and solving internalization problem among LGBTI people. We have realized that the cause of homophobia (and thus internalization!) is
the inadequate, lack or misunderstanding of knowledge of sexuality and its diversity
hence by being committed and dedicated in provision of sexuality education to the
society and the LGBTI our organization (CHS) shall solve Homophobia and
interlinazation problems and create a better, peaceful and harmonious society. Community of Hope and Support (CHS) as a human rights organization for LGBTI people in Tanzania has the following objectives;
1.Change society’s negative attitudes toward LGBTI by fighting against all forms of legal, social, cultural and economic discrimination and persecution of Tanzanians who identify as LGBTI so as to realize equality, dignity and freedom of LGBTI in Tanzania and Africa at large
2.Influence the understanding/knowledge of sexuality and its diversity to the society so as to bring about acceptance or greater tolerance in society towards the LGBTI community through awareness creation, greater participation in the socio-political arena and bettering the standard of living of LGBTI persons
3.Develop, empower, educate, train and give skills to LGBTI in Tanzania so as to create a united, focused infrastructure that will support the overall well being of LGBTI people in Tanzania through innovative and emerging opportunities.
4.Ensure safety (safe life) of LGBTI by creating a platform where issues affecting LGBTI persons can be addressed and aired while having recorded data on LGBTI issues across the country.
5.Hold/joint campaigns with other LGBTI organizations in Tanzania to offering a one stop point for government bodies and non-governmental organization that wants to access information on LGBTI issues across the country.
6.Be a centre for sexuality information and debate for LGBTI in areas of history, science, Religion, political and social grounds
Our organization (CHS) aims at being a leading and effective platform, a centre and
an agent for social change on issues related to LGBTI starting at themselves,
at home, at school, work places, social centres and in the community at large so as
to make sure the existence of non-discriminatory society. Community of Hope and Support (CHS) as a human rights organization for LGBTI people in Tanzania has the following priority areas of focus;
1.Sexual Diversity Education and Media Advocacy/Communication
2.Advocacy and Lobbying Human Rights and Legal Reform
3.Health and Medical Care
4.Economic Empowerment of LGBTI Persons
To achieve these four priorities (above) CHS shall involve/activate itself in
a.Provision of sexuality education at a centre, through internet and one by one. d.Organise seminars, conferences and trainings on themes and topics relevant to the needs of LGBTI and their solutions. e.Counseling for parents/guardians and relatives of LGBTI and to the internalized LGBTI
f.Programs to teach parents and friends how to be supportive of their gay children and peers. g.Teach LGBTI how to live peacefully in a Homophobic society like Tanzania
h.Distribute sexual in*******se materials to all LGBTI. i.Provision of financial support {in terms of interest free loans and grants} to LGBTI. j.Provision of direct health and mental health services. k.Establishment of drop-in-centres for the people who have been abandoned, chased-away, run-away or isolated by the society because of sexuality identities.
