As we are approaching the 2026 Africa Forward Summit, we, as civil society actors committed to advancing health equity, reaffirm a simple but powerful truth: there is no health sovereignty without people-centered partnerships.

We call on global, regional, and national leaders to place people, equity, and country-led priorities at the heart of health cooperation. Health systems must be inclusive, accountable, and rooted in trust—ensuring that communities are not only beneficiaries but active participants in shaping decisions that affect their lives.

True progress in global health will only be achieved when governments, partners, and communities work together in genuine partnership, guided by shared responsibility, dignity, and mutual respect.

Today, Health Promotion Tanzania (HDT) held a productive engagement with the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Amb. Said Shaib M***a to explore strategic collaboration in advancing sustainable financing for HIV, Tuberculosis, and Malaria in Tanzania.

The discussion focused on leveraging Tanzania’s diplomatic platforms to mobilize increased donor commitments in support of global health institutions, including the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, which continues to provide critical support for HIV, TB, and Malaria programs across the country.

As the Global Fund continues to mobilize resources for its eighth replenishment cycle, it is crucial to ensure that sufficient funding is secured for the Fund’s investment case. By working together, countries, civil society organizations, and stakeholders can effectively advocate and unlock the necessary funds to maximize impact and bring us closer to ending these epidemics.

In the lead-up to World Tuberculosis Day on 24th March 2026, Health Promotion Tanzania, in collaboration with STOP TB Tanzania, implemented a range of activities aimed at raising awareness, promoting early detection, and encouraging full community participation in the fight against tuberculosis.

One key activity involved training journalists to equip them with the skills to produce and disseminate accurate, evidence-based, and impactful information about tuberculosis. This training strengthened their ability to educate the public, reduce stigma, and motivate people to come forward for testing and early treatment.

The journalist training was preceded by capacity-building sessions for Community Health Officers, enabling them to carry out their duties more effectively—particularly in identifying early signs of tuberculosis, reaching at-risk populations, and connecting them to timely health services.

Overall, these activities demonstrate the genuine commitment of stakeholders to turn promises into action and ensure that every citizen receives accurate information and access to appropriate services in the fight against tuberculosis.
