A Proud Milestone for PharmAccess 🇹🇿

Last Saturday, during the PHAB–MoH Annual General Meeting, PharmAccess was recognized for its continued contribution to strengthening private health facilities and advancing quality improvement in healthcare.

Aga Khan Polyclinic was recognized as the only facility in Zanzibar to achieve Level 5 Quality Certification, marking a significant milestone in the pursuit of higher standards of healthcare quality.

PharmAccess also received a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of its contribution and partnership with PHAB.

Stakeholders from across Kaskazini Unguja, Zanzibar, convened for a workshop on Strengthening Quality Improvement in Zanzibar’s Health Sector, bringing together key actors to assess the progress of quality improvement initiatives, share lessons learned, identify implementation gaps, and agree on practical actions to enhance the quality of healthcare services delivered to communities.

The workshop was officiated by the Principal Secretary, Ministry of Health Zanzibar, Dr. Mngereza Mzee Miraji , who served as the Guest of Honour. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of strengthening quality improvement across Zanzibar’s health sector as a critical step towards improving service delivery, patient outcomes, and building a more resilient health system.

Through collaboration and shared learning, participants reaffirmed their commitment to advancing quality healthcare for all in Zanzibar.

Day 2 | 3rd UDOM Scientific Conference on Health (USCHe) 2026

PharmAccess took part in a plenary session on Health System Strengthening and Financing for Equitable Access, with Dr. Heri Marwa, Country Director, sharing insights on “Potential Challenges and Mitigation in the Implementation of Universal Health Insurance: Perspectives from a Government Collaborator”

This session put emphasis on practical considerations for supporting the successful implementation of Universal Health Insurance in Tanzania.

A key takeaway message: Achieving Universal Health Coverage requires locally driven solutions. While valuable lessons can be drawn from global experiences, success depends on adapting proven approaches to Tanzania’s context and implementing solutions that reflect national priorities, local realities, and the needs of the population.

The 3rd UDOM Scientific Conference on Health commenced today (29 July 2026) under the theme: “Building Resilient and Sustainable Health Systems Through Research, Innovation and Collaboration.”

Today’s discussions brought together researchers, policymakers, healthcare professionals, development partners, and innovators to explore practical solutions for Tanzania’s health sector. Keynote sessions highlighted resilient primary healthcare, universal health insurance, precision medicine, and strategic public-private partnerships as critical pillars for a stronger health system.

Emphasis was placed on ensuring that research extends beyond conference presentations and publications to inform policy, guide evidence-based decision-making, and improve healthcare service delivery. Participants highlighted the importance of translating scientific evidence into practical action through clear, actionable recommendations that contribute to resilient health systems and improved health outcomes.
