Apart from communication and fundraising Ester has also spent her office days building a new family here in Morogoro, consisting of cats😸

These strays have experienced 4 months of luxury care with food and water served everyday. The group of cats varies each day with some being loyal guests from day one and some coming once a week.

This week Ester finally transitioned from a cat mama to a cat bibi (grandma), when one of the kittens cried out for help near the office. This little guys name is Babaku, a name that carries a lot of love.

If it was possible we’re pretty sure Ester would export all of these kitties to Sweden.

Saying goodbye to her kids and grandkids will almost be as hard as saying goodbye to the FIEN family❤️

The FIEN team had an exciting Tuesday where they visited the Apopo rat training center at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA)

The Apopo rats are trained to detect landmines so post war land areas can become safe again. The Apopo rat center in Morogoro is the only center using rats for such activities and the rats are deployed all over the world to detect landmines, assist search and rescue on earthquake sites, and they can even detect tuberculosis, that’s only the beginning of the list, there’s nothing these rats can’t detect with their little noses. Two of the rats from Apopo have even claimed Guinness world record prizes!🏆

The Apopo rats are a great resource and very useful in many security matters, and of course they’re also very cute.

Thank you Apopo for having us! Until next time!🐀

Time is running away fast and Esters internship is soon coming to an end…

And she couldn’t leave without experiencing the wonders of northern Tanzanias national parks. To accompany her on her Arusha adventure came one of her friends from Sweden and they also got the chance to revisit a Maasai village and get another glimpse of how different they live compared to us city peeps🛖

We also made sure we had time for some baking and other activities…

After a couple days of vacation it is time to get back to the final weeks of work before we say sayonara🫶

Please forgive us for our brief absence, as you can see, we’ve been busy!

On Friday Ester and Cecilia took off to Dar es Salaam to stay with Lupas family. In Dar we meet some fellow travellers, got to swim in the salty ocean and dive into the spider verse🕸️Lupas family was very welcoming and we sincerely thank them for having us as guests.

On Sunday it was time to go back home and embark on the second part of the weekend - another host family visit! This time we visited Magdalena and her family, Magdalena is a star in the cooking field and her meal was delicious🍲Thank you for having us Magdalena!
