Carbon Tanzania

Carbon Tanzania Using forest conservation to combat climate change. We link indigenous communities to the global community through the sale of forest carbon offsets.

Carbon Tanzania develops forest conservation projects in partnership with indigenous communities. The projects strengthen indigenous community their land rights as well as mitigating climate change. The projects generate certified forest carbon offsets that are sold on the voluntary carbon market with the money flowing back to the local community. Our Ruvuma Landscape Manager, Hamza Nkumulwa, recently represented Carbon Tanzania at the Ruvuma Regional Advisory Committee meeting, engaging leaders on carbon trading, project achievements, and our 2025 work plan.

🌳 Local officials acknowledged the impact of the Ruvuma Wilderness project in both conservation and socio-economic development, reinforcing the need to accelerate verification to unlock even greater benefits for the region.

By working hand in hand with communities and government stakeholders, we’re ensuring that carbon finance supports people, forests, and the climate.

How can forests drive real economic change for communities❓

That’s the question Azaria Kilimba, our Operations Manager, will be exploring at the My Trees ‘Understanding nature based solutions in Africa and Zimbabwe’ conference in Harare 20-21 March.

At Carbon Tanzania, we don’t just talk about carbon—we turn standing forests into real economic assets for the people who protect them. Azaria will be there to connect with stakeholders, share our experiences, and support others looking to create high-integrity nature-based solutions.

If you're attending, don’t miss the chance to connect with Azaria and learn how conservation can work for both people and the planet. 🌿

🌳 We are committed to scaling up nature-based solutions in Tanzania through strategic partnerships.

At Carbon Tanzania, we're replicating the successful Makame Savannah project model at scale with five Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) in southern Tanzania. These WMAs connect Nyerere National Park in Tanzania and Niassa National Reserve in Mozambique. The Ruvuma Wilderness project will work with local communities to protect over one million hectares of vital woodland, enhancing biodiversity and carbon sequestration.

The success of the project relies on collaboration:
✅ Local communities: are involved at every step, starting with a detailed FPIC procedure, project design and the operating and managing of the protection activities.
✅ (Honeyguide Foundation): Enhances WMA governance through management training and operational support.
✅ Revalue: Provides advanced technology to strengthen carbon accounting and ensure high-integrity credits.

Together, we're able to prevent the loss of biodiversity, urgently address the climate crisis, and support sustainable development.

We're thrilled to be part of the Regional Carbon Market Dialogue, where our Co-Founder, Marc Baker, is contributing to vital discussions on VCMs and climate finance in East Africa. Marc will join a panel that focuses on Article 6 and forests and the role of public-private engagement.

During the session the panelists will explore how to leverage the VCM's potential and what adjustments may need to be made to align with Article 6 in order to drive high-integrity carbon projects and sustainable development.

At Carbon Tanzania, we believe that community-led conservation is the key to addressing both the biodiversity and climate crises. Our latest newsletter highlights how local communities are driving impactful change through:

✅ Education and governance – Training newly elected village leaders on carbon projects and good governance.
✅ Data integrity and monitoring – Strengthening data collection for accurate, transparent conservation efforts.
✅ Carbon revenue impact – Investing in education, land security, and forest protection.
✅ Cutting-edge technology – Using LiDAR to push standards in biomass measurement and carbon credit verification.
