On 15 August 2026, women drivers from the **Pink Bajaji Initiative had the opportunity to transport members of the BMZ delegation across Dar es Salaam in electric three-wheelers.

For our women drivers, this was more than a journey across the city. It was an opportunity to demonstrate their skills, be recognised as professionals, and be visible within conversations about the future of Tanzania’s mobility sector. Moments like these matter in an industry where women remain underrepresented—they affirm that women belong behind the wheel and have an important role to play in shaping a greener and more inclusive transport sector.

We appreciate through the WE4D Programme for creating this opportunity and for supporting greater participation of women in the green economy.

Three days. 60 women. One shared vision for the future of mobility. 💗

We extend our appreciation to GIZ Tanzania, through the WE4D Programme, for partnering with OVAH Tanzania through the Pink Bajaji Initiative to make the Bootcamp possible. Together, we created a space where 60 women drivers could strengthen their skills, expand their networks, and explore opportunities within Tanzania’s growing mobility and e-mobility sector.

Participants themselves highlighted how the training strengthened their confidence, situational awareness, and preparedness to navigate their work safely.

Special thanks to TGNP and Ladies Joint Forum for joining us; Enabel in Tanzania and and GIZ CRDB Bank Foundation for sharing asset financing opportunities with the women drivers.

Kwa dereva, kujua kuendesha gari ni sehemu moja tu ya safari. Kujua namna ya kusimamia kipato unachopata ni muhimu pia.

Katika siku ya tatu ya Women in Mobility Bootcamp 2026, washiriki walijenga uelewa wao kuhusu usimamizi wa fedha, kuweka akiba na kupanga matumizi kulingana na kipato chao.

Kupitia majadiliano na kazi za vikundi, wanawake walitengeneza bajeti zao kwa kuzingatia hali halisi ya maisha yao—kuanzia gharama za kazi na madeni, hadi majukumu ya kifamilia na mahitaji mengine ya kila siku. Pia walijadili namna ya kutenganisha mahitaji muhimu na matumizi yanayoweza kusubiri, kuweka malengo ya akiba, na kupanga fedha zao kwa namna inayowawezesha kufikiria zaidi ya mahitaji ya leo.

Kwa wanawake wanaofanya kazi katika sekta ya usafirishaji, usimamizi mzuri wa fedha ni msingi muhimu wa kujenga uthabiti wa kiuchumi. Lengo si kupata kipato pekee, bali kuwa na uwezo wa kukipanga, kuweka akiba na kutumia fursa zilizopo kujenga maisha na biashara endelevu.

Day Two Recap: Building Safer Pathways for Women in Mobility

Safety is a prerequisite for women’s meaningful participation in the transport sector.

On the second day of the Women in Mobility Boot Camp 2026, participants strengthened their understanding of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in transport settings before taking part in an intensive self-defense training designed to equip them with practical techniques to recognize, prevent, and respond to unsafe situations.

Among the most powerful reflections shared during the closing session was participants’ appreciation for the self-defense training. Many described it as one of the most valuable components of the boot camp, noting that it not only taught them practical skills but also increased their confidence, situational awareness, and preparedness to navigate their work safely.

“The transition to e-mobility is creating new opportunities for entrepreneurs, innovators, and small businesses. Women should position themselves to benefit from this growing ecosystem.” — Mr. Pascal Giki

During the panel discussion, Mr. Pascal Giki highlighted the expanding opportunities emerging within Tanzania’s green mobility sector. He shared that Enabel, together with its partners, is scheduled to launch the EVOLVE Project under T-GATE Pillar 3 to accelerate the growth of green mobility and strengthen micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).

Implemented under the European Union’s Global Gateway framework, the initiative reflects the growing investment being made in sustainable transport and reinforces the importance of equipping women with the skills, networks, and knowledge needed to access these emerging opportunities.

“While advancing women’s financial independence, it is essential to also consider the aspects of safety, security, and resilience within the sector, as these elements will further support the realization of Tanzania’s Vision 2050.” — Lilian Luindi, former TGNP Executive Director.

Addressing the question of what policy and ecosystem changes are needed to increase women’s participation in transport, Lilian Liundi emphasized that creating opportunities for women requires more than opening doors—it requires building systems that enable them to succeed.

Drawing on the priorities outlined in Tanzania’s Development Vision 2050, she highlighted the importance of increasing women’s participation in the labour force and ensuring that economic growth is inclusive. She called for stronger collaboration between government, financial institutions, the private sector, and civil society to create an enabling environment where women can enter, remain, and thrive in the mobility sector.

“The transportation sector gave me a second chance.”

During the panel discussion, Jacline Ringo, a beneficiary of the Pink Bajaji Initiative, shared how limited employment opportunities after graduating from university motivated her to explore the transport sector. What began as a search for work has grown into a career that has expanded her skills, confidence, and horizons.

Through the Pink Bajaji Initiative, Jacline has not only achieved economic independence but has also represented Tanzania at the Women in Transport in Africa Conference in Nairobi, Kenya, demonstrating how investing in women creates opportunities that extend far beyond employment.

“I was motivated to join the mobility industry because decent employment opportunities were scarce, despite completing my university education.
