Our Story
The Supporting Inclusive Resource Development (SIRD) in East Africa project is a five-year project funded by Global Affairs Canada and implemented by the Canadian Bar Association working with the East Africa Law Society, the Law Society of Kenya, the Uganda Law Society and the Tanganyika Law Society.
The project is focused on supporting good governance of the natural resource sector in East Africa, ensuring that the benefits of the industry, from mining, oil and gas exploration and other extractive industries, extend to all key stakeholders, including governments, their business partners and most importantly, their citizens – especially those who have been most impacted by these activities.
The SIRD project is working to improve the economic well-being of East Africans, particularly women, through advocacy for gender sensitive and inclusive legal, policy and regulatory reforms as well as strengthening of community engagement and empowerment.
