Mr. Kleiman.. As Anne often calls him. Was one of the people who helped the Frank family into hiding during N**i regime.

Johannes Kleiman was born on this day in 1896. He was one of the helpers and Otto Frank’s right-hand man. It was Johannes who came up with the plan of using the Annex as a hiding place.

The people in hiding expressed deep sympathy for Johannes. Anne Frank wrote in her diary: ‘Still, we have troubles, too; it's about Mr. Kleiman. As you know, we are all very fond of him, he is always cheerful and amazingly brave, although he is never well, has a lot of pain, and is not allowed to eat much or do much walking. “When Mr. Kleiman enters the room, the sun begins to shine!” Mummy said only recently, and she is quite right.’

When the eight people in hiding were discovered in August 1944, Johannes Kleiman and Victor Kugler were also arrested. Together, they were taken to prison. Otto Frank felt guilty, but Johannes put his mind at rest: ‘Don’t give it another thought. It was up to me, and I wouldn't have done it differently.'

Anne is now a full fledged teenager, however, due to her being the smallest child in the entire Secret Annex, her words is not being taken seriously. In fact, they aren’t being taken into consideration, period.
She shares her frustration, in beautiful languages, with her diary Kitty.
Anyone who reads her words will certainly feel her frustration.
She had vowed to stay silent, but her personality would not let her be a silent lamb.

Special Happy Father's Day to Jim!! As well as thank you to Wendy and Amy for joining us on this wonderful Reading Adventures!!!!

Anne continued to be underestimated by adults.. Her world is currently in turmoil. Air raid sirens blaring. AA (Anti-Air) guns going off constantly. So often that she felt like the world was ending..

A bit of good news (?)… Italy’s dictator Benito Mussolini abdicated (resigned). A new king took his place. Anne is hopeful that the war will end soon.
According to history, Italy will officially join the Ally Power on October, 1943 (Thanks, Jim! For the information). Before that, they were a strong supporter of the N**i Regime.. Perhaps now that the tide is turning in Allies’ favor, Italy sought to gain a foothold on the winning side…
Italy did the switcheroo in both World Wars (I & II) - again, thanks to Jim for providing this info!

Hopefully we will receive some good news as we read on Anne’s diary next week!
We will start at the end of page 80 to end of page 81.

A special Thank You to Wendy, Jim, and Michael for joining us on this brand new Reading Adventures as we dig deeper into Anne's life.
Last time she left off at some sort of a hope that they would be liberated..
However, the next thing they faced was more bombing.. More air raids. Sirens blaring, guns booming...
She had listed out what everyone would do when they are liberated.. from Mrs. Van Daan wanting to eat a cake (though personally I wouldn't recommend it, since she had pretty bad teetch, and she most certainly would not visit a dentist again...), to Anne's most wanting to go back to school again if she were liberated.

The reality quickly set in as sirens started blaring again. Though this time it was a false alarm. However, soon after they had their breakfast on Monday, July 16, 1943, a second siren went off again. This time, it was not a false alarm.
"After the dishes had been washed: another air-raid
warning, gunfire and swarms of planes. "Oh, gosh, twice in one day," we
thought, "that's twice in one day," we thought, "that's twice too many." Little
good that did us, because once again the bombs rained down, this time on the
others of the city. ... The planes dived and climbed, the air was abuzz with the drone of engines. It was very scary, and the whole time I kept thinking, "Here it comes, this is it."" - page 79.
Such a dreadful thought by a 14-year-old girl~~
Hopefully next time things will get better for Anne and the rest of the people hidingi n the Secret Annex!!
