What color are the mountains of Taitung in your eyes?
Chiang and his wife have always loved the sea. Between 2002 and 2005, Paul Chiang and his wife often set out before dawn, driving from Taipei along Taiwan's east coast—𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘭𝘦𝘵 𝘶𝘴 𝘴𝘦𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘢𝘯. Sometimes there and back in a single day, wearing out a jeep along the way. When they finally arrived in Jinzun, Taitung, they knew at once. By 2008, home and studio stood there.
Along those long coastal drives, Chiang watched the light shift across the Coastal Range—hour by hour, season by season. In 2010, those impressions became the 𝙈𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣 𝙍𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙏𝙖𝙞𝙬𝙖𝙣 series.
Painted in oil, yet breathing like ink wash—light moving across layered peaks, golden haze gathering between ridges, vast and quietly alive. Standing before them, you feel the weight and grace of the island entire.
