台灣流行音樂名人堂創立的目的是希望挖掘並表揚對台灣流行音樂發展具卓越成就及貢獻的幕前幕後人員，由此引起社會各界的討論與關注。並且藉由逐年舉辦，為台灣流行音樂歷史累積與蒐羅珍貴的音樂藏品、手稿、表演物件及口述歷史影片等。
