“Mom, this is also for you!
Since the day you told me you had to leave school at only Grade 9 to financially support your family, that moment etched into my heart. You were gifted with numbers—sharp, intuitive, brilliant and I know now that I inherited that gift from you. But more than just numbers, I inherited your strength, your resilience and your relentless spirit.
I made it my mission—to deliberately and wholeheartedly, to rise, to reach heights you once only dreamed of, so that your sacrifices would never be in vain. Every step I take is a tribute to the road you paved with love, hardship and quiet courage.
You were the one that sat with me over homework, who greeted me at the door after school, whose voice told me I could be more. You taught me to chase greatness, to value independence, in your words “O skaba mokopa’kopa ngoanaka, ikemela” (translated from Sesotho, “Don’t become a beggar my child, stand for yourself”). You also taught me to believe that no dream was too far if I was willing to fight for it.
Thank you for being my first teacher, my constant encourager and my greatest cheerleader. Everything I do, I do with you in my heart. This is not just my journey—its yours too.”
