The National Master Barbers Association of Trinidad and Tobago (NMBATT) was founded in 2004, became registered as a Non-profit Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) and was established on May 7th, 2006 with an official lecture and workshop which was held at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Port-of-Spain. The main presenters were representatives from Sher Ego International of New York. The workshop focused o

n Sterilisation and Sanitisation for the Beauty Culture Industry as stipulated by the Health and Safety Code Act. It also focused on learning the art of barbering and emphasized treatments for scalp disorders and proper protection of the hair and scalp for both clients and hairstylists. At the launch a great number of barbers and hairdressers from regions throughout Trinidad and Tobago were in attendance and did receive certificates for participation. A Barber’s Operating Licenses were also given to the registered participants as a symbol of their preparedness for the industry. To date the association has hosted numerous workshops throughout Trinidad and Tobago and has been fortunate to partner with organisations such as the International Labour Organisation and the National AIDS Coordinating Committee. Recently the association opened a Barbershop and Training Programme at the Youth Training Centre. We have also been successful in capturing the attention of both the Beauty Culture Industry and the general public through such workshops . We can also boast of a membership of over one thousand members of both the male and female gender and the figure continues to increase.
