Before the gates open, the medicine is already counted out.

This is what a normal morning looks like at Animals Alive TT. Not the rescue day. Not the adoption day. Just Tuesday.

Some of our residents are diabetic. Their blood sugar gets tested twice a day, every day — a small prick on the ear, a drop of blood, thirty seconds of waiting. Then breakfast: bowls measured one by one for the seniors, the puppies, and the ones still putting weight back on. Then the horse. Then we wash it all down and do it again tomorrow.

Over 500 animals. Every single day.

Chronic care doesn't make for dramatic photos. It just has to happen — whether or not anyone is watching.

That's what your donations actually pay for. Test strips. Insulin. Feed. The unglamorous, unmissable daily work of keeping 500+ animals alive.

Animals Alive TT is a no-euthanasia rescue in Trinidad & Tobago. Every animal here stays until they find a home — however long that takes.

HAPPY 64TH INDEPENDENCE, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO

This year, the sky celebrates quietly.

500 drones and silent fireworks instead of the crack that sends animals over fences and out of gates every single year.

Which means this year, a dog on a hillside gets to look up and watch it too. That's what a silent celebration gives back — a country that can celebrate without frightening the ones who can't be told what's happening.

From all of us at Animals Alive — to every rescuer, foster, volunteer and adopter who showed up this year. And to every animal still waiting for someone to show up for them.

Sixty-four years. Happy Independence, Trinidad and Tobago. 🐾

🇹🇹 WHAT IS A "SILENT FIREWORK" — AND WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR YOUR PETS?

Tomorrow night Trinidad and Tobago turns 64, and the sky over the Savannah belongs to 500 drones and a silent fireworks display. Most people have never seen one. Here's what it actually is.

Silent fireworks are still real fireworks — real shells, real colour, real bloom in the sky. The difference is what's packed inside. A normal display carries shells that exist for one purpose: to make noise. Silent fireworks simply leave those out. Same picture. Different feeling.

And the difference matters more than most people realise. Regular fireworks reach 150–170 decibels — a jet engine at take-off. A dog hears roughly four times what you hear. That's not a dog being dramatic. That's pain.

But here's the part we need you to hear: SILENT DOESN'T MEAN SOUNDLESS. Something still has to launch the shell. And private fireworks will still go off across the country tomorrow night, official show or not.

So before dark on Monday:

🏠 Bring pets indoors — interior room, curtains closed
🔊 Leave a fan, music or the TV on to blur sudden sounds
🏷️ Check collars, tags and microchip details — more pets go missing on fireworks nights than any other night of the year. They bolt, and then they can't find the way home
🛏️ Let them hide. Under the bed, behind the couch, wherever. Hiding is coping, not a problem to fix
🐕 Walk the dog early, before dark
🩺 History of severe panic? Speak to your vet before Monday, not during
🐦 Birds and small pets: move cages away from windows and cover partially

Silent fireworks and drone shows are what a celebration looks like when it counts everybody in it — including the ones who can't be told what's happening.

Happy Independence, Trinidad and Tobago. 🐾

We condemn the killing of Poggy.

In Pasea Village, a dog named Poggy was deliberately struck down by the driver of a van. He did not die instantly. He suffered for a full day before his injuries took him.

Poggy had a name. He had people who loved him. And he spent the last day of his life in pain, for nothing.

What the footage shows was not an accident. It was a deliberate act, and it was cruel.

We are calling for justice for Poggy, and for the full enforcement of the laws that already exist to protect animals in this country. Animal cruelty cases are escalating, and too often nothing follows — no charges, no consequences, no accountability.

That has to end.

The police must act.

They found him on the road. The vet said there was one option left.

Rover lost the leg. He did not lose anything else. 🐾

Today he races around the shelter like the road never happened, and greets strangers as though they came specifically to see him.

Every rescue starts the same way — with one person deciding to care.

They found him on the road. He couldn't walk. One of his legs was damaged beyond saving, and the vet told us there was only one option left.

Rover lost the leg. He did not lose anything else.

Today he races around the shelter on three legs like the road never happened. He greets strangers who have never met him as though they came specifically to see him. Most days, they did not. He doesn't mind.

Every rescue starts the same way: with one person deciding to care.

That's all it has ever taken. Someone stopped for Rover. Someone paid for his surgery. Someone sat with him while he learned to walk again. None of those people knew him beforehand.

He has three legs and zero notes on his own performance.

The new dog is settling in. The commentary is ongoing. 🐾

This is what your donations actually pay for — food, vet care, and a safe yard to be ridiculous in.

$100TT feeds 10 animals for a full day. That's it. That's the whole ask.
