In Loving Memory of Naïam Mustapha

Naïam Mustapha was the beloved husband of Fazilla Mustapha, devoted father of Khaleel, Esa and Shakira, and father-in-law of Sabrina and Felisa.

He was the son of the late Zaid and Khalafan Mustapha, and brother of Nisha, Nadara, Abida, Omar, and the late Nur and Ahmad.

Naïam was born at 82 Eastern Main Road, San Juan, next to Republic Bank. His family carried on the business legacy of Zaid Mustapha Accessories for more than 50 years, as well as Kamus Mufflers and Mustapha Engineering.

He was a member of the San Juan Business Association and a steadfast supporter of its activities. He was a stalwart of both the San Juan community and the wider business community, earning the respect and admiration of all who knew him.

On behalf of the San Juan Business Association, we extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to the Mustapha family on the passing of their beloved husband, father, brother, and friend.

“Indeed, to Allah we belong, and to Him we shall return.”

Ameen.

Today, we join the nation in commemorating Indian Arrival Day and honoring the courage, sacrifice, and perseverance of the thousands who journeyed to Trinidad & Tobago in search of a better future.

Their rich culture, traditions, values, and contributions have helped shape the vibrant and diverse nation we proudly call home.

As we reflect on their legacy, let us continue to celebrate unity, respect, and the strength that comes from our shared heritage.

🇹🇹 Happy Indian Arrival Day from the San Juan Business Association.

One People. Many Roots. One Nation. ❤️🖤🤍

Yesterday, representatives of the San Juan Business Association met with stakeholders and national media to highlight several urgent issues affecting our community and businesses.

Among the key concerns raised was the critical need for the construction of a dedicated fire station to serve the San Juan district and surrounding areas. At present, our growing community remains without a fire station within the immediate area, raising serious concerns regarding emergency response times, public safety, and protection of homes and businesses.

Additional discussions focused on:
• Traffic congestion and road management
• Flooding and drainage concerns
• Crime and public safety
• Vagrancy and its impact on residents and commerce

The Association continues to advocate for practical, collaborative solutions that improve safety, infrastructure, and quality of life for all stakeholders within the community.

We thank CCN TV6 for covering these important discussions and helping bring national attention to matters affecting San Juan and its surrounding districts.

The San Juan Business Association (SJBA) expresses concern regarding the recent fee adjustments implemented by Republic Bank Limited, effective May 1, 2026.

These changes include notable increases in charges for commercial cheque books, manager’s/official cheques, NSF and overdrawn account fees, loan late fees, and the introduction of per-debit transaction charges on certain accounts. At a time when many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are navigating elevated operating costs, reduced consumer spending, and broader economic pressures, these adjustments add further strain to day-to-day business operations.

SJBA members rely heavily on essential banking services to facilitate payroll, supplier payments, customer transactions, and working capital management. As such, increased banking fees directly impact the cost structure of businesses and may result in difficult decisions, including passing on costs to consumers or absorbing them within already constrained margins.

While the Association recognizes that financial institutions face their own operational, regulatory, and security-related expenses, the timing and scale of these changes warrant careful consideration, particularly in relation to their effect on the real economy.

The SJBA encourages Republic Bank to engage constructively with the business community, consider supportive measures for SMEs; such as tiered fee structures or targeted concessions; and provide greater transparency around the rationale for these adjustments.

The Association also encourages businesses to review their banking arrangements and assess available options to manage and mitigate rising financial service costs.

The SJBA remains committed to advocating for a fair, competitive, and sustainable business environment and welcomes continued dialogue with financial institutions and other stakeholders to support economic growth.

🚨 ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! We Strongly Denounce the Recent Wave of Violent Crime in Our Community! 🚨

The San Juan Business Association is outraged and deeply concerned by the alarming spate of abductions, robberies, and violent crimes plaguing our community in recent weeks. The brazen kidnapping of a 73-year-old businesswoman from her home on Don Miguel Road has shaken all of us to the core. These senseless acts of terror against hardworking residents, families, and business owners cannot and will not be tolerated.

San Juan is a vibrant hub of commerce, enterprise, and community spirit. We refuse to allow criminals to undermine the safety, progress, and peace that our members and residents have worked so hard to build. These incidents are not just attacks on individuals, they are direct assaults on our entire community’s future, our livelihoods, and our right to live and operate without fear.

We emphatically demand:
• Immediate and decisive action from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and relevant authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice.

• Increased visible policing, intelligence-led operations, and resources dedicated to San Juan and surrounding areas.

• Stronger collaboration between law enforcement, businesses, and community leaders to root out crime at its source.

• Urgent government intervention to address the root causes of this escalating violence before more lives are destroyed.

To our members, residents, and fellow business owners: Stay vigilant, secure your premises, look out for one another, and report all suspicious activity to the police immediately. We stand united against this lawlessness.

The San Juan Business Association will continue to lobby tirelessly for enhanced security measures and will not rest until our community is safe again. Crime has no place here. We will fight back through unity, advocacy, and zero tolerance.

Together, we protect San Juan.

The San Juan Business Association yesterday convened a closed-door strategic meeting with key business stakeholders, reinforcing our commitment to leadership, security, and informed decision-making. 🏛️🤝

In attendance was Senior Superintendent Ms. Guy-Alleyne of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, along with Attorney-at-Law Zaheer Ali. 👮🏽‍♀️⚖️

Mr. Ali delivered a clear, practical, and engaging discussion on the Stand Your Ground legislation, providing business leaders with greater clarity on citizens’ rights and the lawful scope of self-defence. 📘

A strong understanding of this legislation is key to better protecting oneself, one’s family, and one’s property, while ensuring actions remain firmly within the law. 🔐🏠

The San Juan Business Association remains steadfast in equipping its members with knowledge, access, and leadership on matters that directly impact safety, commerce, and community resilience. ✅

🛡️ Protecting Those Who Protect Us 🛡️

The San Juan Business Association is proud to have successfully coordinated a health initiative in support of the dedicated officers of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service at the San Juan Substation.

Our protective services stand on the front line every day, often at great personal sacrifice, to safeguard our communities, our businesses, and our families. Ensuring their health and well-being is our civic responsibility.

This initiative reflects the Association’s commitment to excellence, service, and partnership, and demonstrates what is possible when the private sector steps forward with purpose. We extend sincere thanks to all private entities and professionals who contributed their time, resources, and expertise to make this initiative impactful and meaningful.

🤝 When business and service unite, communities grow stronger.
🛡️ When we protect those who protect us, we uphold the very foundation of society.

There is more to come. The San Juan Business Association remains committed to meaningful collaboration in support of our protective services and the wider national good.
