THE UNC’S SELECTIVE MORALITY EXPOSED
The glaring audacity and the dastardly hypocrisy of the UNC Government in its desperate attempt to weaponize the John Bates matter against Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles Robinson is as laughable in form as it is insulting to the intelligence of the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
The Opposition Leader has raised a legitimate concern regarding standards in public life, something any responsible Opposition is duty bound to do. Yet the UNC, led by Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar and amplified by Barry Padarath, has chosen feigned outrage and vile political attacks instead of honest reflection.
The irony of the UNC’s politically convenient position is not lost upon the citizenry. It is the same UNC now pretending to take the moral high ground that is the very political party that has been repeatedly asked and is yet to answer for several of its members of questionable and dubious character who are facing serious allegations, including cabinet members out on bail, the infamous “it wasn’t me in Room 201” scandal, and the embarrassment of the “false papers” controversy.
Before attempting to attack Mrs. Beckles Robinson, a woman whose public service and impeccable integrity span decades, the UNC should first address the dubious conduct and controversies that continue to surround its own ranks.
Barry Padarath, shrieker that he is, may believe loud attacks and political theatrics can distract the population, but Trinidad and Tobago remembers very clearly the handbag carrier who is yet to account for $135 800.00 in FCB cheques that he issued to Kamla Persad Bissessar in 2014, and who cannot explain where the $703000.00 that he deposited into a relative’s RBC account came from. He may pretend to forget, but the country has neither forgotten, nor will it accept his and the UNC’s feeble attempts at a revisionist agenda and at mind manipulation. Barry the Magician cannot hyponotize a sober, but simmering population.
The PNM National Youth League stands unapologetically with our Political Leader Pennelope Beckles Robinson. No amount of manufactured outrage, political deflection or selective morality from the UNC can erase their abysmal record or silence legitimate scrutiny. The people of this country deserve honesty, consistency and accountability from those who seek to govern, not political convenience and desperate attacks designed to distract from their own contradictions.
