Be Emotionally Intelligent in the Play
Are you aware of how a low consciousness can allow the manifestation of lower emotions, and a higher consciousness can evoke higher emotions? Who is in charge of this? In the ignorance we feel that we have no power: “I hate this person. I am just made up this way, I cannot do anything about it.” We feel that we have no power. Then in a more heightened consciousness, we begin to say, “What is this inside of me? Why am I so jealous? Why am I so unforgiving?” In a higher consciousness, we tend to separate ourselves from the lower nature. The motive becomes, “How can I change this? This depresses me. This depletes me. This creates conflict in my space. I do not want this.” That desire for transformation will help us to grow the consciousness....

The question becomes, “How do I pull myself away from that negative emotion that seems to be so strong in me? How can I become more forgiving when I do not want to forgive? Please help me. Grant me more awareness. Open my mind, Lord, Dhiyo Yo Naḥ Prachodayāt, illumine my intellect. Tamaso Mā Jyotir Gamaya, take away the darkness from within me.” And in that prayer, when it is sincere, grace comes, the Master comes, shaktipāt comes. The Universe in its benevolent nature grants our desire. “Oh now I am seeing these qualities that I owned. I do not want to have them anymore.” In higher consciousness, we learn to accept the lower nature; we do not fight with it. We begin to feel the power to detach from it and to choose another. That is what is called ‘emotional intelligence’; the ability to observe the emotions in the play, the ability to accept the duality that exists within us and the power to change it.

So we need to be conscious of the way emotions play in the space, and we need to develop more consciousness to be able to deal with them. We need to be emotionally intelligent. I do not need to tell you how powerful emotions are. They make us cry. They make us commit su***de. They make us contract and withdraw and move away from everything. They bring disease into our bodies; they foul the system up. I do not need to tell you what emotions can do. On the contrary, they can bring so much brightness, unity, love, kindness, compassion and charity into the space. What awesome power we have as spiritual beings in a human experience to transform the experience, to change our state of well-being, and to influence the world around us. All we need is more consciousness, to be more conscious. And when we are weak, we need to pray, “Grant me more wisdom. Grant me more understanding. Let me learn to manage my emotional nature. Let me learn to be emotionally intelligent in the play.”

Let’s center in the stillness of Being.
That means giving attention to the background of thoughts, emotions, desires, intentions and physicality.

Centering in the essence of your being which is eternal blissful being without time, without change.

Centering in that place where you can observe change. What is changing, what is unreal?

Center in the stillness of being, that you may see change from the center of changelessness within you. We need to get to that center. It's an act of awareness, intelligence and mastery.

Turn Knowledge into Wisdom
If you have taken a verse or sloka from a sacred book; you have to take that verse until it becomes very clear to you, until it takes you to its objective.

When you take a mantra contemplate it, apply it, process it, observe what it is doing to you, whether it is holding you in ignorance or whether you are getting a deeper layer of meaning every time you process it.

Have you really been taking the knowledge that you are gaining, processing it, applying it, observing the transformation it is bringing and taking it right to the end with the Guru’s support? .....
On the journey to wisdom, there are three steps: shravaṇa, manana, nididhyāsana. Those are the Sanskrit words. Shravaṇa is listening; you learn, you listen, you absorb. Manana is the processing; it is what the caterpillar undergoes. And nididhyāsana is staying with the processing until the realization comes, and you are firm in the realization.

So the end of knowledge is wisdom! Do not stagnate on your journey. Do not be the overfed caterpillar that is not processing that it may turn into a butterfly.

Let us see if we can roll out that red carpet for Her and bring Her, the Mother of Grace, the Mother of compassion, into our play.
Let us centre in beingness, present moment awareness, Pure Being. It is a mental centering, because the ego is at the centre of the mind.

Tune into Kuṇḍalinī by centering at the brow
Centre in the brow as I have taught you. There you will find Her at the energy centre. Just breathe with the consciousness of the medulla point at the back of the neck, and the third eye. It comes in a very natural way as you breathe in ujjai. Slow and gentle, keeping the mental field open.

If you feel the presence of energy at the brow, it is Her. Focus at the centre of eyebrows until you can feel an energetic response there, even if it is peace that you feel – a little pressure at the centre of the eyebrows. And hold the consciousness of infinite space in the mind.

Follow Her guidance
Immediately Om comes into my mind, as it is associated with infinite space. Just gently draw the prāṇa through the breath to the brow, and stay with me there.

Those of you who feel a connection to the heart, where you begin to feel the heart and the brow linked together, then breathe with the consciousness of heart and brow. It is as though the heart is coming up to the brow, and the brow and the heart feel as though it is in one place. So the brow is in the heart, and the heart is in the brow. This is a deeper experience of the subtle body.
If the breath becomes a little shallow, stay with it. If a mantra resonates in the mind, allow it. And if the breath begins to move in rhythm, know that She is behind that rhythm. If you begin to feel that the mind is becoming steady, know that She is supporting the steadiness of the mind. If you begin to feel the heart is opening up to the sweetness of loving being, to the joy of loving being, She is behind it.

Welcome Her with the greatest reverence. She is your own. This is how you bring Her into the play, opening up your consciousness to Her presence. And let your doing be in Being, which means that your doing happens in the vast space in the consciousness.

This is the Divine space. This is the space of Grace. This is the space that nourishes our vital being, our nervous system, our prāṇamayakosha, the prāṇic body; it becomes revitalized. Heart-mind, infinite space, where nourishing happens.

You Are In Charge of the Play

Where is the mind operating? It operates like a wave, simply a wave. A wave is really non-existent. It is energy moving in a medium. Stop the energy, the wave stops. But the medium remains as the reality. The wave can always flow again but the medium is the reality. So when you create thoughts, you actually create waves. If you have done any biofeedback work with the brain you will see that. You play with the mind; you play with the brain waves. You play with the energy; you play even more with the brain waves when you have a consciousness of the energy. Recently, I have been playing with that to my delight. I can change my brain waves at will and I see how people have difficulty in changing their brain waves.

If everything is a creation of the mind and all the creations are stored on the inside, and the field that holds everything in which the mind plays its waves is the essential reality, then where should we be anchored in this play? In the field isn’t it? We should be able to feel our field. We should be able to be conscious of our field. And because it is an energy wave that the mind creates we should be conscious of this medium inside of us in which waves play, and how we can create waves. How you can create a large wave, a small wave, a highly intense wave, a low intensity wave. So you should be able to master the way you create waves in your consciousness. The first thing is understanding and appreciating the consciousness space in which waves are created.

The sahasrara chakra at the crown of the head takes you to that infinite space of consciousness. And the more you get into right brain energies the more you get into that infinite space. All I need to do is play with my energy right up in the crown and my right brain stays nicely.

And if I let go of all the exertion, the left brain and right brain just drop the waves. It has been exciting to see, when I play with my energies on the inside, how I can change the wave patterns. If I really want to be intense, my left brain goes up, my right brain goes up and they work together. So I see when I play with the energy how I create these brain waves, and if I stop the play on the inside the waves go down.

Who is in charge of the Play? You.

Inner Guru is a sacred energy
You may feel different energies, subtle sensations in different parts of the body. As you focus there you begin to feel movement in the energy.

For example, you may feel some pressure in the centre of the eyebrows, that’s the mental centre, and as you focus on it, you feel that there is some kind of pulling sensation there, it brings your mind to focus, and then your concentration deepens.

As you focus on it the energy begins to move into the entire head area, and you really begin to feel a guidance inside, some force pulling you on the inner space.

And then you begin to realize this inner guide is a very powerful energy, a sacred energy that really lifts you on the inside.

How would we know if we are caught in body consciousness? We think "I'm only human.” Of course you're not only human, you're divine also.

Sri Vasudeva says:
How do you experience that divinity that you already are? The Divine is already existing in you. It's the infinite consciousness that you exist in. It is the Divine that is energizing your voice, your attention, your intention. It is behind your self-identity, your ego. It is the Divine that is there. But yet you think that you are the human body.

That illusion that you are the body when you're not, we call it Maya, the grand illusion. Do you know how many people in this world are caught in the consciousness that they're the physical body, totally unaware of the soul power and soul consciousness. Totally unaware. They believe in it, but belief is not experience.
To really understand that you exist in the Divine, that you are a soul and not the body, you need to shift the consciousness. You need to go to another level of consciousness which you are fully capable of.

The Guru is a form of Grace
If we are in a state of limitation in consciousness, certainly grace will lead us back to the fullness of consciousness; and it takes many forms. The external Guru is one form, when the being or person becomes so pure and noble in intention, they allow that Principle to manifest in and through them. This may happen in various degrees as the person becomes more and more selfless, the Guru Principle acts through them more and more.

More powerfully, the Guru Principle can manifest right within your own being, guiding you on the inside. How does it manifest in this spiritual awakening? As an energy that you can feel in the inner space; as an energy that pulls you on the inside. It’s a subtle energy, it’s not gross that you can perceive with the physical senses, its subtle.

So you have to shift the focus a little bit to the subtle world and you have subtle senses that can pick that up. In spiritual awakening, this inner guide becomes awakened, and you can actually feel it, urging you to do things. Perhaps you may think of those urgings as insignificant and not give attention to them, when they are really coming from a higher space within.

I always say, don’t give your power away!

The moment you get attached to something, addicted to something, you’re giving your power away.

The moment you believe in what people say about you, you give your power away.

People say you’re foolish, you become sad. When they say, ‘O you’re so great!’ you become happy.

And you’re totally powerless to everything you hear about you.

Where is your faith in yourself? In what you believe in?

It’s more important to know who you are, it’s more important to stay in your truth, in your power, and to explore the higher qualities of your being.

And not to manifest the low, primal qualities the animals so freely express - being territorial, going after pleasure and power, and being totally mindless.

Allow yourself to be drawn within
There is an inner guide waiting to draw us in. It is always there, ever waiting. It reminds me of the story of the prodigal son who deserted his father, did not find any joy, and had to return!

And so too, our consciousness is so caught up in the humanity, we find no real joy, little pleasure here and there, some power struggles that give some excitement, and then, pain! That is the story of the human experience! Pain and pleasure, pleasure and pain. There is a saying that the same thing that gives you pleasure, is the very same thing that gives you pain - that is the human experience!

So in drifting into the material world and consciousness, we experience pain and misery, and as we begin to retract our steps and go inward, we find that there is a force that can pull us in. It is called grace! It is our loving Creator and Sustainer, holding us, waiting for us to come home, and it feels so good when you begin to turn inward.

Just let go, let go of every burden and allow yourself to be held. It is such a nourishing, sustaining, healing balm.
