This and other parcels washing up on Tongan shores might be the remnants of what the French Polynesian police dumped at sea earlier in May.

Locals are worried after 26 co***ne parcels have washed up on beaches in the Lau group of islands.

On the small island of Komo, Sevuloni Tagimoce is concerned for the safety of his community.

"I was walking along the beach to my farm, I saw the packet it was wrapped in a yellow balloon," he said.

"When I first saw it, I didn't immediately think of drugs until I picked it up and saw the way that yellow balloon was neatly secured."
