Gabrielle Goliath presents Elegy, an independent exhibition at the 61st Venice Biennale, staged at Chiesa di Sant’Antonin.

Developed over more than a decade, Elegy is a multi-channel video installation and performance project exploring mourning, remembrance, and collective resistance through shared breath, song, light, and voice.

Following its presentation in Venice, Elegy will travel to London for a presentation at Ibraaz in October 2026.

I Hear the Old Sound of The World’s Future

Exhibition and research project

The Kamel Lazaar Foundation is pleased to present the exhibition “I Hear The Old Sound of The World’s Future” by Berlin-based Tunisian artist Mohamed-Ali Ltaief at B7L9 Art Centre.

The exhibition considers the profound connections between sound, memory, and histories by revisiting early 20th-century North African sonic archives and listening to the stories they hold.

Through his research, Ltaief investigates colonial-era sound recordings produced by the Prussian Phonographic Commission between 1915 and 1918. These archives contain the vocal recordings of North African prisoners held in German war camps. Today, these sound collections are stored across institutions such as the SMB museums in Berlin and Ennejma Ezzahra in Tunis and in different counter-archives. By returning to these fragmented archives and the lives behind them, the artist foregrounds overlooked histories and voices.

The exhibition engages a multi-channel video installation, giving space for sound to become spatial, visual, and performative, opening new ways of entangling with these testimonies.

The opening will take place on Friday, April 24, at 6:00 PM, and the exhibition will run until July 5, 2026.

"I Hear The Old Sound of The World’s Future" invites the audience to listen differently, recognizing how sound carries memory through time and continues to echo today.

يسرّ مؤسسة كمال الأزعر أن تقدّم معرض "أسمع الصوت القديم للعالم الآتي" للفنان التونسي المقيم في برلين محمد علي لطيّف، وذلك في مركز B7L9 للفنون.

يتناول المعرض الروابط العميقة
بين الصوت والذاكرة والتاريخ، من خلال العودة إلى الأرشيفات الصوتية لشمال إفريقيا في بدايات القرن العشرين، والاستماع إلى القصص التي تحملها هذه التسجيلات.

من خلال بحثه، يستكشف لطيّف تسجيلات صوتية تعود إلى الحقبة الاستعمارية، أُنتجت من قبل اللجنة الفونوغرافية البروسية بين عامي 1915 و1918. وتضم هذه الأرشيفات تسجيلات لأصوات سجناء من شمال إفريقيا كانوا محتجزين في معسكرات الحرب الألمانية. تُحفظ هذه المجموعات الصوتية، اليوم، في مؤسسات مختلفة، مثل متاحف SMB في برلين وقصر النجمة الزهراء في تونس، إضافة إلى أرشيفات مضادّة أخرى. ومن خلال العودة إلى هذه الأرشيفات المجزأة وإلى حيوات أصحابها، يسلّط الفنان الضوء على تواريخ وأصوات غالبًا ما تم تهميشها.

يعتمد المعرض على تركيب فيديو متعدد الوسائط، يمنح الصوت بعدًا مكانيًا وبصريًا وأدائيًا، ويفتح طرقًا جديدة للتفاعل مع هذه الشهادات.

ويتردد صداه حتى تاريخ الحاضر.

Leïla Shahid
Une flamme dans le vent

Avec la disparition de Leïla Shahid, ce n’est pas seulement une diplomate accomplie qui s’éteint, mais une présence culturelle lumineuse. Elle était de celles qui portent une cause comme on abrite une flamme dans le vent, la protégeant sans jamais la laisser se dissoudre dans le slogan.

Elle avait compris que la culture est le plus court chemin vers les cœurs et les esprits. Là où la diplomatie cultive souvent les détours, la culture nomme et révèle.

Sa voix savait convaincre parce qu’elle était habitée par une attention constante aux autres. Son engagement relevait d’une fidélité intime à une terre, à une mémoire et à une exigence universelle de justice. Elle a incarné, des décennies durant, une Palestine meurtrie mais debout, blessée mais jamais résignée.

Elle appartenait à cette lignée de femmes libres pour qui la culture est une manière de relier les êtres et de sublimer la pluralité du monde.

Au fil des années, elle a soutenu des artistes, des écrivains et des penseurs afin qu’ils soient entendus pour ce qu’ils étaient : des voix libres et singulières.

Son amitié avec Mahmoud Darwich rappelait que la poésie porte une mémoire que nul argument ne remplace.
Sa proximité avec Edward Said exprimait l’exemplarité palestinienne dans la déconstruction des récits dominants afin de rendre à un peuple la maîtrise de son histoire.

La voix de Leïla Shahid nous manquera, mais elle laisse inaltérable sa trace.

Que sa mémoire soit lumière sur les chemins obscurcis de la paix ; promesse de garder grands ouverts les horizons de l’imaginaire, de la création et de la pensée.

Du printemps 1957 à l’automne 1961, Dr. Frantz Fanon vécut à Tunis où il exerça en tant que psychiatre et s’activa comme dirigeant du Front Libération nationale (FLN). En référant à des sources écrites et orales, il s’agit dans cette conférence-débat de savoir comment s’est passé le séjour professionnel et politique de Fanon en Tunisie, pays nouvellement indépendant ? Et en quoi le passage par Tunis fut décisif au niveau de la trajectoire composite de Fanon : théoricien et praticien, Algérien et Africain.
