The Arab Insti
tute for Democracy was founded in Tunis in 2012, by a group of Arab civil society activists and human rights advocates, working to contribute to the support of the movement for political reform and democratic change in the group of Member States of the Arab League, and aspiring to rebuild the Arab regimes on the basis of pluralism, integrity, transparency and commitment to the values of the rule of law and the peaceful transfer of power and the human rights. Objectives:
The Arab Institute for Democracy aims, as a non-governmental organization of regional and international character, to achieve the following objectives, either individually or in the framework of cooperation with organizations with similar objectives:
1. Supporting the democratic transition experiences in the Arab countries and encouraging Arab regimes to perform democratic reforms.
3. Contributing to the development of democratic awareness and the culture of human rights in Arab societies.
4. Monitoring violations of democracy and human rights abuses and condemning practitioners as well as the advocacy to correct the resulting situations in the Arab countries.
5. Contributing to the creation of an international public opinion supportive of the reform movement and democratic change in the Arab World, and encouraging governments and countries of the world to help democratic regimes, and to abstain from helping authoritarian regimes. Means:
The Arab Institute for Democracy relies on the following means to achieve its objectives:
1. Establishing mass activities to raise awareness of issues of democracy: festivals, exhibitions and works of art.
2. Organization of lectures, seminars, panel discussions and conferences on issues of democracy and human rights.
3. Production of audio - visual means dealing with the issues of democracy and human rights.
4. Establishing workshops and training courses in the field of democracy and human rights work.
5. Issuing statements, reports, researches, publications, books and magazines specializing in human rights and political education.
6. The adoption of any other means enabling to achieve its goals, in compliance with applicable laws. Future projects:
1. The organization of conferences on the role of the political consensus mechanisms in building democracy
2. Training courses to monitor the elections in a number of Arab countries.
3. Issuing an annual report on the state of democracy in the Arab world.
4. The production of documentary films and audio - visual material on the issues of civil society in a number of Arab countries.
5. The organization of Arab Conference on “The control system of the constitutionality of laws in the Arab world”.
6. Training courses on establishing or rebuilding of democratic parties. The Institution:
The organization is supervised by a Board of Directors whose membership consists of Tunisian and Arab prominent figures known by their contributions in the Tunisian and Arab civil society. The Institute relies, in the implementation of its activities, on the administrative secretariat and a team of experts and researchers specialized in the movement of civil society, democracy and human rights in the Arab world. The Institute also relies, in the elaboration of its programs and the consultation on the raised issues, on the Board of Trustees consisting of the following prominent figures:
