Up on the saddle (or plateau) between Macadade and the Ilicmanu, Atauro Island, there is a village Tuanlori, which is linked to Atecru via clan and cultural connection. It is a fantastic location for birding on Atauro Island. Ebird checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S335024052

Wet season is limiting for birding for obvious reasons. However, the reappearance of less common but pretty Pale-headed Munias in Dili gardens, and other residential areas is pretty nice for birders. These ones snapped at Bebonuk, Dili, Timor-Leste this week.

Despite the wet season conditions, Laclo River Estuary, in Manatuto Municipality, township of Obrato/Laclo provides a great opportunity for birding during the Christmas and New Year holiday period. A mere 1.5 hours maximum drive east from Dili, stopping for grilled fish along the way it’s a great getaway.
